Who's to blame? My lyrics, Ai vocals and music optional link

More of a challenging Ai collab, this one is quite interesting, I thought!

[intro]

[verse 1]

I'm staring across the valley to the mountains far away.

Wonderin' what god would think, if he visited us one day.

When he looked around and checked his project plan.

Would he smile, and think, we've done the best we can.

[verse 2]

The sea is industry's septic tank, the fish gave up and died.

Corporations have spent a fortune covering up their lies.

The air is brown and acrid, our kids struggling to breathe.

Rich buy condo's in New Zealand, but you can never leave.

[chorus]

I doubt he'd be so forgiving, or allow us to go on living.

He could tell we've taken a paradise, and turned it into hell.

Who's to blame, if God tore it down, and began it all again.

[verse 3]

Our environment's a plastic wasteland, built to last forever.

Chemical firms are running away, now their not that clever.

The Amazons a playground, for tyrants and dictators.

Miami's underwater, retirement homes for alligators.

[chorus]

I doubt he'd be so forgiving, or allow us to go on living.

He could tell we've taken a paradise, and turned it into hell.

Who's to blame, if God tore it down, and began it all again.

[bridge]

It's too late now, you had your chance,

or still, you're in denial.

Believing what Fox News tells you,

as the sun dries up the Nile.

[chorus]

I doubt he'd be so forgiving, or allow us to go on living.

He could tell we've taken a paradise, and turned it into hell.

Who's to blame, if God tore it down, and began it all again.

[outro]

But tell me, who's to blame?

Tell me, who's to blame?

Who's to blame?

Sounds pretty real Sid , you got a talent on AI

Unless your famous no one cares about suing you on a sound alike song.

You've read the stories on famous artists being sued like George Harrison

Apart from picking the one out of six that's closest to what I hear in my head, I post the output as is, warts and all.

Any options to adjust are extremely crude, i.e. change the prompts (styles) and hope you get an improvement over what you have already. Probably would be quicker and better to put the initial output on a DAW and do it from there. Not that I know anything about DAWs, just something Owen said.

Your comment re copyright is interesting too, the few songwriting books I've read put a lot of emphasis on copyright infringement. I got the impression there were lawyers just waiting to swoop on a five note melody if it came close to someone elses. Thanks for your dose of reality, appreciate your experience.

Hit writers have insurance on their hits , like cars, if someone steals it . I don't worry about some one stealing my songs , A hit writer just beat me in the time it took to write this , If your in the big show , then you get involved with lawyers and all that

What's a hit writer ? , They work tirelessly on the craft of music . Nobody is born one

if you read bios on Nash writers a lot are college educated , some went to Belmont .

I think being smart enough to finish college , they have the learning skills to figure out songwriting

The more I hear of this AI stuff, the more I think that it's the vocals that are the weak spot. The melodies and harmonies and are spot on but the phrasing is rather strange. The mix too lacks dynamics though that could easily be fixed - using AI!! I recently invested in a license for Steinberg's Spectral Layers which will do exactly that.

Interestingly the AI debate has just popped up on one of the other forums that I frequent. We certainly haven't heard the last of it, but I feel a very urgent need to write a new song - and to sing and play it!!!😁

PS..this doesn't particularly remind me of any other song, but I can foresee such problems in the future.

Spot on Chris, the phrasing is Ai's Achilles heel. What it sings and how it should sing are two different things. I find it frustratingly obvious at times. It's the nuances that are subconciously ingrained in our brain over years that Ai is struggling with.

    Elvis,

You have such a refreshing blend of pragmatism and cynicism, it absolutely puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

    Thank you

Back to Chris's comment on phrasing.

What you said has been playing on my mind, so I reviewed the song again in that context.

I focused on the end, bridge, chorus, outro, forgive my lack of proper musical terms.

When I wrote the lyrics, these sections were meant to progressively hammer home the message, then philosophically ask the question "who's to blame"?

Ai very loosely follows this map but fails in the key areas. Listen to the last line of the bridge, this should be a progressive build up to the highest phrase of the song "As the sun dries up the Nile" "sun and Nile" stressed for emphasis. Ai drops the energy level on "dries up" completely dissipating the build up for "Nile". The same thing happens in the last chorus, it starts another build up then drops off a cliff.

Pro Musicians? love to hear your comments!

    Sid

  • As a protest song, I think the music needs a bit more "protest" in it. It's a little too folky at the moment. Don't know if you can include that as a prompt (or whether you already did!).

Strongly worded social commentary in the lyrics. I especially like the chorus.

I think the personal verse at the start is a good idea, before going into the list of environmental abuses, which can feel a bit remote by itself.

It's a time for strong words.

The protest prompt came out because that generated the closest vocal output I was looking for. I did try others but for one reason or another they weren't what I was looking for. These prompts are very difficult to work with and totally inconsistent to fine tune.

The best thing for the likes of me using Ai, is I can hear errors and opportunities to improve, a lot!

I post my initial lyrics and what I think is the best Ai rendition of music and vocals. I do this rather than post revamped lyrics post Ai because I place more value on this forum's contributors than on Ai.

Only when I collate the feedback from the forum and Ai do I go back and revise. The end product is usually much better than my initial offering and I thank you all for that.

"list of environmental abuses, which can feel a bit remote by itself.", very useful comment this one! Thank you.

They've been writing protest songs for 100's of years , It never seems to help , Its still kings and peasants

Yeah when we get old , age always gets in the conversation , like some badge of honor . cynicism dots the storys we tell, We always find it important to preach to young people,
