Awake - Angie Handley and Steve Lintern

https://youtu.be/DSgcv3l8MXM?si=viVStoXjMjNWk5a2

My latest is a collaboration. Managed to snag the talents of a great singer.

Everything seems so right
Since you came into my life
A world that I just couldn't face

Feelings I had to hide
Turned off a switch inside
Now it all clicks into place

I never thought you'd come
You are the only one
Woke up a sleeping part of me

Heard you on the telephone
Couldn't leave the well alone
A part I thought I'd never see

Awake.

You don't know how much you give
You see the world for what it is
You're not like other men

Made me feel like someone else
Cannot help but pinch myself
Now I feel alive again

Awake.

A chance I thought I'd never take
Love I thought I'd never make
A heart I thought would always break
Now I finally feel awake

Awake.

  • Your singer is excellent! And I like the song.

The only thing I would be careful of is the backing instrumentation. A lot of the song is stepping between two chords (D & C?) and that's a bit repetitive. You do bring in additional instruments, and complexity in the percussion, but if you can, I'd really try to get this to build dynamically (keep everything you bring in). Then maybe halfway thru you could pare it back to the start, and start all over again.

But the core of what you've got is solid.

No its not , You lost me when she was on the phone

    Heard you on the telephone

    Couldn't leave the well alone

    A part I thought I'd never see

I have no idea what that means .

You heard this man on the telephone that saved you ?

  • Thekesslerboy

That's how the two people cemented their relationship. At a distance via the phone. A cliche, I know. But the song is full of clichés!

I love talking hours on the phone

    Your a 1000 miles away

    Something like that

If your saying this a long distance relationship , you need to say so

Also when did this girl meet this person ? and where

your telling the story , Not showing it with furniture

You should do a work tape first before spending X amount of dollars on a demo. Never do that until your sure

don't tell me how I know

Musically it goes no where except the same vibe

it also helps leaving 3 comments on other people songs

I'm sure it won't be mine , cuz I know your not gonna like what I'm saying on your tune

You have one line pointing to your hook awake , something about sleeping, the whole song should point to awake

ok... Snow White was asleep , thats something that points to your hook awake . Snow White is furniture

I felt like Snow White for so many years

A rip van winkle in curls

    Awake

    See what I mean ?

Rip van winkle , Sleeping beauty

    More furniture

    Awake !!!!

Elvis, I don't know where you came up with all these rules, but I don't think you understand songwriting as well as you think you do.

You're free to not like this song though.

I won't be reviewing any of your songs as I don't review what appears to be AI generated content. I'll try to review some others soon though, thanks for reminding me.

Pointing to the hook , I know them well enough . you have one line

Good stop posting songs and leave no reviews , all sites are the same post one song leave 3 reviews . do they follow it NO

You know why ? , all there care is about there self

You should have run that thru suno for a Penney , before you spent 500 for demo

    to late

Elvis, you seem like a very bitter person, rather than a supportive fellow musician, so I'll try not to take your ramblings to heart. If you're happy to use AI to create songs, that's fine, but maybe you should also follow the site rules and declare what part of them is real and what isn't.

Our song was created entirely in our respective homes, using guitars, a 15 year old portastudio, 20 year old PC software, and the vocals were recorded in a cupboard room. But, I'll thank you for the back-handed compliment that our little home produced song sounds like it came from a pro studio! Thanks!

What part of your songs is created via AI? The rules here, which you like to quote when it suits you, are at https://www.thesongwritersforum.com/vanilla/discussion/795/use-of-ai-at-the-songwriters-forum#latest

"AI Generated songs can be posted provided either the lyric or the music has been created by a TSF member. Please note in your post if either the lyric or the music was AI generated.

If a song is entirely AI generated, with the only input from a TSF member being the AI prompt, then it is not suitable to post on TSF. AI prompting is its own skill and activity, but isn't what this site is about."

man I've been on here long enough , to keep saying I write them

Here's what I do , test the waters with suno , If I like it , I record with humans by Nashville , like I'm doing today at 2pm

isn't it time to move on , you must have better things to do

Good luck with your song , I hope you make enough to buy a Island

Then you're in a conundrum as a majority of the songs been posted lately are a mix of human generated lyrics covered by AI. If you're required to comment on two songs for every one you post, and if the songs are partially AI, and you don't comment on AI generated music, then you can't post :)

I don't understand the all or nothing mentality. That's fine if you don't want to listen to the music but at least comment on the lyrics as this is a songwriting forum. The music is a byproduct of the lyrics.

  • Thekesslerboy
    Thekesslerboy South Wales

Bhengen, some fair points there. But I won't be commenting on computer generated songs that are not from the heart. Just soulless pastiches of what a human would create, with bland copy and paste vocals, and "perfect" production. I might as well comment on the empathy of my microwave!

Now, if the submitter actually states how the song has evolved, then that's a different matter. If the contributor makes no mention of AI in his songs, yet links directly to an AI site, I will make the safe assumption he's gone on the site, given a vague subject matter, chosen the genre (invariably country and western), picked his singer, and pressed "generate". Then out popped the lyrics, vocals, music and production. I'm not going to waste my time listening to it, let alone review it.

Another contributor submitted a years old demo of a song, then the AI created version of it. That is as honest as it gets. The new version was brilliant in every way, musically and production-wise, but was still lacking the human touch.

ALL OF MY LYRICS ARE 100% mine not AI. all of my concepts are mine not AI. I come up with the subject and then create the lyrics. I only use AI to make sure my logic is fine and the lines fit within the confines of the beat I'm looking for in the genre I chose.

I only use AI to generate the music. that's it.

I post MY lyrics into the box that says lyrics, create the style I want, then hit generate. the music is AI, BUT THE LYRICS ARE MINE AS POSTED INTO THE BOX. if you want, I can send you the vsc file that I use to create MY lyrics that I post into the lyrics box, I have no problem with that. BUT THEY ARE MY LYRICS AS I'VE STATED AT THE TOP OF MY POST. SUNO, only stores the file, would you prefer that I share the Audius link where I also post the song generated from MY LYRICS?

Yet even though I've clearly stated in my post that the lyrics are MINE and not AI generated, then you should have no issues with commenting on my lyrics. as they are mine, not AI, but you haven't.

Here's the problem, if I state my lyrics are my own and I send you the link to Suno where it stored, what, you think that I'm not being truthful because It's an AI site?

    Your logic is flawed.

Here's how sites like this stagnate, if you refuse to comment on the lyrics, even though the artist has stated that they are his, and this artist, doesn't see anything worthwhile in your song lyrically or musically, because it's generic, then nobody comments.

There has to be a happy medium.

  • Thekesslerboy
    Thekesslerboy South Wales

Bhengen, I can tell you are being totally truthful. You have made your points clearly and eloquently. Unlike Elvis who cannot string a legible sentence together on here, yet somehow his songs lyrics scan perfectly, they have punctuation, and they make sense. That, I'm afraid, makes me think AI is doing the heavy lifting, lyrically, musically, and vocally on his songs. I won't review them or other completely AI generated stuff.

I have not deliberately not reviewed your stuff. I haven't been on this site for a while. To be honest, it was the repeated names every other posting that made me think this was being flooded by AI songs that put me off it.

What you said made me think though. If you are entering lyrics into the AI site, and all of the music is being computer generated, aren't they more like poems than lyrics? I don't know the answer. But I looked at the first posting on this forum now, yours for Pythia.

That is a poem, not lyrics. It is full of random imagery, stream of consciousness, no rhymes or choruses. Nothing wrong with that. I wrote lots of poetry in school. But that's not a song to me. It's a poem. You say you wrote it, and I believe you. So it's your poem. I don't see a song there. Sorry.

Not sure what you are sorry for, it's an opinion, one of many. again, funny that you think that' all of AI songs are poems.

You also seem not to be too familiar with prog or experimental rock where not all songs have choruses or bridges or structure.

    You're a funny boy ;)

    How I write now

First get groceries for the week

    Write a hook and angle

1/ ask AI if angle and hook has been done

    I get 2 answers

    1 / No it hasn't

2/ Yes but you might beat whats been done

    1/ is the best answer

Then I write the song , first I turn the radio on with 25 country hits

    It takes about 3 hours

Then I get AI to run grammar , you have to allow slang , or AI comes back with formal lines to my lines

Then I run each line to see if each lines makes sense

If I get a no answer , I correct it , run it again till it says yes it makes sense

Now song is complete I ask whats the best promts for suno for this song

Example/ “Modern outlaw country with a 70s feel, acoustic rhythm guitar, walking bass line, and raspy male singer confessing his sins on the highway.”

By doing this method I save time and decide which song I can record myself using a guitar vocal

I can usually crank out 2 to 3 songs in a 16 hour period.

Well its only a song a day now , I got a bit excited on my new toy

I can keep that pace for 4 to 5 days , then crash for 20 hours

Its basically working smarter than harder

Not much you can do to beat robot singers . Step up to the mike and belt it out and try not to get a complex

  • The AI debate always fun, like it hasn't been done to death already

  • What kills me are these folks who aren't professionals threatened by something that doesn't matter in the end :)

Not much matters in the end

    Just a 4K box on a hill

Marked up high 'cause of religion

    "Dearly beloved…" now here's the family's bill

All that praying didn’t save a dime
