How The Story Ends
Hi Everyone... This was intended to be one of my very first "Rock" songs, way back in 1979.
What do you think of it as a Singer / Songwriter song.
"How The Story Ends"
By Tom Tognaci
Where there’s a mountain there’s a trickle
And water gathers in a stream
Over falls, into a river
Emptying into the sea……
…..For everything with a beginning
There comes an end eventually.
I don’t know why we can’t start over
Why do the good things have to end?
If I were a poet, I’d write over and over
The words you’d want to read again and again
But I’m not a poet nor a writer
That’s just the way our story ends
It’s how the story ends
If I could write a new beginning
I ’d start with, ”Once upon a time”
I’d have a “happy ever after”
For our story’s closing line…
…A timeless tale, and one worth telling
Oh, God, I wish it could be mine
If only I could start all over
I’d be the hero, not the friend
And you’d keep a book mark to read over and over
The place where I’d be loving you once again
But I am not God nor I his poet
That’s just the way our story ends
It’s how the story ends…
It’s how the story ends…

What can I think=. It0s a soooo wonderful song, all the ways to look at it are good, guitars sound so clear, close, intimate, vocals perfect, emotion within it, nice solos, and a wonderful story, eso te digo!

I think it works well.. I like the free flow aspect, like a steady thought process. keeps moving.

This is a great song. I love hearing things from 40 years ago that were written without influence of all the crap that came since. This is a fairly timeless song - could be a rock or country ballad.
Nice playing as well.

Well it certainly works in this style! The opening lyrics feel much more singer-songwriter than rock, but who knows?
it's a good write. Love the guitar work, and that's likely built off your style.
"Emptying into the sea" feels a little bland. Maybe "Flowing restless to the sea"?
It's quite a sparse song. I can almost imagine a female counterpoint in there, though what she'd be saying I don't know!
Timeless.

I was much more of a romantic at 20, and everything was about love.
Hi Rainy, when i first picked up the guitar at 15, I was writing everything in a singer / songwriter / Folk style. I desperately wanted to start writing Rock. Me and my partner purchased a Reel-to-Reel recorder and made a demo of this. A few years ago I posted it on Soundclick so as to share it. Here is one of my very first attempts at Rock:

As far as "sparce" goes, I'd like to generally use these as demo... And simplicity is sometimes the way to convey the writing best.
