Sometimes You’re Mister Rogers Sometimes You’re Jesse James

Verse 1

Some mornings I wake up gentle

Coffee cup and a quiet prayer

Feed the dog, wave at the neighbors

Like I’ve never known despair

Hold the door for strangers

Let somebody merge my lane

Yeah some days I’m cardigan kindness

Other days I’m pouring gasoline

Pre-Chorus

There’s a halo in the closet

Hanging next to chains

Chorus

Sometimes you’re Mister Rogers

Sometimes you’re Jesse James

One hand handing out mercy

One hand loading blame

We all talk about forgiveness

Till somebody calls our name

Yeah sometimes you’re Mister Rogers

Sometimes you’re Jesse James

Verse 2

I’ve turned the other cheek before

I’ve also drawn a line

I’ve let a man keep talking

Then I’ve stopped him mid-sentence with mine

I’ve been the calm in the kitchen

I’ve been the storm in the bar

Depends which side of me you’re pushing

And how far you wanna go in the dark

Pre-Chorus

There’s a front porch light for sinners

And a shotgun in the frame

Chorus

Sometimes you’re Mister Rogers

Sometimes you’re Jesse James

You quote a little scripture

Then you rewrite it in flames

You swear you’re about redemption

Till pride gets in the way

Yeah sometimes you’re Mister Rogers

Sometimes you’re Jesse James

Bridge

Black hat, white sweater

Both hanging on the same nail

Heaven knows I’ve meant well

Hell knows I’ve meant it

When I didn’t

Breakdown (half-time feel)

Ain’t nobody pure as Sunday

Ain’t nobody outlaw all the time

We’re all just one bad memory

From crossing that thin line

Final Chorus (lift it bigger)

Sometimes you’re Mister Rogers

Sometimes you’re Jesse James

You try to build a neighborhood

Then burn it down in shame

We’re all a little mercy

We’re all a little flame

Yeah sometimes you’re Mister Rogers

Sometimes you’re Jesse James

Tag (quiet, gritty)

Cardigan folded on the chair…

Revolver resting by its name.

    Nice! And this too:
