It has a more epic feel, and that certainly fits the theme, and the style of the lyric too.
I feel like the chorus has more emotional power in the original version, and on the whole that version is likely accessible to a wider audience.
The main thing is which fits your intention better, and you've already indicated that!

Thanks Tammy. I love music of pretty much all genres, as long as it has a decent beat, I'll listen. I am also blessed to have an older sister with an eclectic taste for music :)

Thanks for the comment Mora. Honestly, the newer version has had more attention than the original. At one point, it was on the trending list. which proves the theory that correct music choice can make or break a song :)
