On the way to I don’t know where

I went down to the silver river

looking for a long lost vision there

over the rocks and through the trees  

On the water a blue riverboat passed by

card tables full of dreams that won’t die.

there’s a light inside

looking for the way

let it be your guide

I started thinking about my hopes

just then I heard a young voice yell

hey, man, come on and grab the ropes.

A teen stood in a pirogue waiting on me

an orphan looking to change his life

with a look in his eyes like a knife

We shared jerky, talked about the river

He asked did I want to ride the boat,

I looked at the boat and let out a shiver,

think I’ll try the city when I leave here,

might be magic in the thorough fares

or maybe something even more rare.

You don’t know what you’ll find

until you turn over some stones.

The sky has answers  I’m not blind

I’m looking up, I’m looking beyond              

mind as bright as the horizon’s path

like joyful music in complicated math.
