Dress for success

Dress for success
[Intro]
My old man was a doubter,
said i’d never amount to beans;
told me, be like your brother.
Wear a suit not faded blue jeans.
[verse]
Sell that pickup buy a beamer.
Ditch your loser friends.
It’s like swimming with an anchor
when you hang with them.
[pre chorus]
Money can’t buy happiness
but it beats being poor.
Beautiful women love it;
come knocking at your door.
[chorus]
Seize the bull by the horns.
Don’t take any less.
Be more like your brother.
Yes, dress for success.
verse
Sell that guitar, buy a briefcase.
Enroll in law school.
Playing honky tonks buys trouble.
Don’t be a damn fool.
pre chorus
Success leads to more success.
buys a house on a hill.
Losers only drag you down.
Look at your uncle Bill.
chorus
Seize the bull by the horns.
Don’t settle for less.
Be more like your brother
Yes, dress for success.
bridge
I bought some new boots and a stetson.
Put together a great band.
We scored a number one hit single.
So look at me now, old man.
I’m richer than my older brother.
I don’t own a suit or tie.
I own and fly my very own jet
Hey old man, I'm doing fine.

  • Hangs together well.

Up until the Bridge, it felt like the narrator was going to achieve success thru something other than money, as it felt to me like that was being disapproved of. So a bit of a twist there at the end.

  • @carroll REALLY love this one. Love how your story ends. Father ISN'T always right!

Always look forward to your brilliant lyrics,
