lyrics SS : music/vocals Ai

[verse 1]

You get time to look again, as age holds your hand,

watch the tapestry of your life, roll past your eyes.

Stop it at a point, and listen to the playback,

voices you haven't heard, for tens of years gone by.

[verse 2]

Laugh at all the daft things, that you did back then.

mistakes you'd avoid again, if you only had the chance.

Moments you let go by, you'd grab with both hands,

Times you hesitated, asking those girls for a dance.

[chorus]

Looking back at your life,

through a veil of fallen tears.

The sand in the hourglass,

has reached the Winter Years.

[verse 3]

The Autumn years are mellow, you think you still can,

do things you remember, and leave those you forget.

You ask permission from your body, to do a lot of stuff,

It stops you going mad and later dying to regret.

[chorus]

Looking back at your life,

through a veil of fallen tears.

The sand in the hourglass,

has reached the Winter Years.

[bridge]

Use your Winter Years, so you can dwell on what is due,

St Peter will decide if you've sinned or good at heart.

Will those who loved you, be enough to get you through,

or will your sins be many, and tear your hopes apart.

[chorus]

Looking back at your life,

through a veil of fallen tears.

The sand in the hourglass,

has reached the Winter Years.

[outro]

Looking back at your life,

through a veil of fallen tears.

The sand in the hourglass,

has reached the Winter Years.

  • @sidshovel - nice reflective song.. we all do that, especially when things are down. perfect music to go along with the sentiment :)

  • "reached the Winter Years" is a lovely expression. That's going to resonate with many.

Not sure about "veil of fallen tears", the song is more reflective, as Bill said, than sad.

Personally, I wouldn't go with being judged by St Peter in the Bridge. It doesn't quite gel with the rest to me - though undoubtedly people think more about death and what comes after as they approach it! I'd try more for a "use your remaining years well" vibe there.

Music is a good fit to the reflective nature of the lyrics. Enjoyed my listen!

    @bhengen, @RainyDayMan,

Thanks for your comments guys, constructive and welcomed.

The song is reflective of a life lived and it's worth when judged against a higher standard.

The narrator is not a saint, hence "veil of tears". The bridge is meant to convey this dilemma, will the good outweigh the bad, St Peter will judge. Given the above, the narrator is in no position to lecture others, no room for a holier than thou vibe.

    @ElvisNash, thanks Elvis,

This is not meant to be a religious song, and I don't agree mentioning St Peter as a judge makes it one.

Bit like using a phrase such as "God only knows, for Gods sake, Lord in Heaven, suddenly makes a song gospel!

Happy to consider other "judges", if anyone as a suitable alternative.

    Thanks again,

    Sid

No it's not religious song , it's a sweet song of life passing , but then you added sins . What are sins anyway ? Kill someone , adultery and stealing . I doubt any of these people did any of them . Well its just a point , its your song
