Confused
Confused
[verse]
I stepped on a crack in the sidewalk.
It opened; I fell in a hole.
I lay there dazed and a bit confused.
Staring in the eyes of my soul.
[verse]
His look of disdain was apparent.
I could see that he felt betrayed.
I blinked and saw my dead mother
wearing in the shroud of my shame.
[pre chorus]
In one hand she clutched the bible.
In the other was a rod.
When not preaching she would beat me.
So I turned my back on god.
[chorus]
I’m confused, oh so confused.
Which road should I choose?
Lord god, what should I do?
[verse]
I woke from my sleep in a casket.
It opened; I saw my old man.
Drinking bourbon straight from a bottle.
Laughing as if he’d gone insane.
[verse]
He tossed me a glance of approval.
He nodded and said you’re like me.
You love wild women and drinking booze.
Doing anything that you please.
[pre chorus]
In one hand he held a pistol.
In the other was a rose.
He said there comes a time in life.
You’re standing at a crossroads.
[chorus]
I’m Confused, oh so confused.
Which road should I choose?
Lord God, what should I do?
[bridge]
I’ve fled from the path of righteousness.
I’ve traveled the road to doom.
now I find myself at the crossroads
wondering which road to choose.
[Outro]
I’m confused, oh so confused.
Which road should I choose?
Lord god, what should I do?

Oh, my! @carroll I can SO relate. All I'll say. Very open and honest lyric. Appreciate that very much. And 'choose life' aka God. See Deuteronomy 30:19

The narrator seems to have a clear idea that he's doing wrong "I’ve fled from the path of righteousness." so the confused part doesn't hold up for me.
I quite like imagery and story of encountering his mother and father though.

A wonderful song Carroll, without the need for a forensic analysis, I found the message came across loud and clear.
Do let me know if you put it music, always interested in your work.
