I was playing an open mic in Austin in the 70's Townes asked me if I knew Girl from the North Country and I told him no. totally nice guy with a lot of empathy.

An appreciation of his work only came to me in my latter years, but from what I've read, a lot of people had the same view of him as you.

Here's a Townes story: Drunk at a Houston bar he was carrying a saxophone at the time. He had no training on the sax but he had a gig across the street from the bar he was in. He crossed the street and instead of his usual guitar and vocal he started playing the sax, improvising, and he, from the reports, played a 45 minute solo, in full control of the instrument. He was also,along with his other attributes, an extraordinarily intelligent man.
