Wasted All This Time
Wasted All This Time
(Slow strummed acoustic guitar, soft drums)
I spent the last six years
Hopin' you would always be right here
I thought I did everything right
Can't believe I wasted all this time
You let me go, I'm still holdin' on
I listen to nothin' but heartbreak songs
You made me question my whole life
Can't believe I wasted all this time
(add soft electric guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin and dobro)
Chorus:
It just ain't right, it just ain't fair
I'm devastated and you don't even care
I kept tryin' but you just gave up the fight
Can't believe I wasted all this time
Why couldn't you just try to work it out
Now all I do is cry real loud
Everything was goin' so right
Can't believe I wasted all this time
Verse 2:
I thought my life was perfect
But it wasn't worth it
My dream was nothin' but a lie
Can't believe I wasted all this time
No, can't believe I wasted all this time
Chorus:
(Instrumental break)
Bridge:
Now my soul is full of fear
I don't know where to go from here
Chorus:
Can't believe I wasted all this time...
(Music fades...)

Some folks here just write and post their lyrics which is fine. I think I've said this before but I don't get the idea of posting just the lyrics if you have a song recorded.
I'm guessing that your EP is intended for commercial release which might explain it. Just curious.

@ChrisPrice I agree, Chris. I think it's wonderful that people write and post their lyrics, and that some also post their computer-generated songs to express themselves. We're in a new world and that's their art form, but should it all be channeled into a single hodgepodge? It does not seem logical. It seems that separate compartments for lyrics, covers, songs, and AI content are in order. I respect that @RainyDayMan has decided not to for now, but he also left the door open for such a change:
The current structure isn't set in stone, it's open to discussion. If we start getting 50 posts a day then it may become essential to split it up for it to become manageable. Or you may convince me there are more Pros to some other arrangement.
It seems very logical to have those separate compartments. Some prefer not to see lyrics-only posts and will never read or review those. Others prefer not to see posts that focus on computer-generated songs and will never review those. Others simply don't care either way. One issue is that when one is away from the forum for a few days and returns, the forum is filled with mostly lyrics and AI content, while full songs penned by humans are already buried back on page two or three. A couple of high-quality songwriters very recently posted nice new songs, yet their material is already buried back on pages two and three under a torrent of computer-generated songs and lyrics posts. The current rules seem very unfair to human songwriters. Is it fair for humans to compete with computers for the attention of human ears and human eyes? Think about it.
Again, this is not an attack on computer-generated songs or lyrics-only posts. They have a place. Instead, it's a much-needed call for more attention to songwriters who post their original songs with music and lyrics.
Regarding your comments about @JT424, he mentioned in a previous post that he does not have any recorded music, but only posts his lyrics and imaginary tracks and albums as part of his fantasy about being a recording star (or words to that effect), and I think that's great and a healthy pursuit born of a healthy imagination, but doesn't it belong in a lyrics sub-forum for lyrics enthusiasts to enjoy? The other issue there is that I don't believe he has ever submitted any feedback to anyone else in the forum, which is a forum rule, even if only to say "cool" or "try to do better next time". LOL! But nothing... ever? He's far from alone. Also, the rules indicate no more than one new song a day is allowed, yet some post two or more songs a day routinely.
Also, to show I'm really a cool guy, and not an Ebeneezer Scrooge -- haha! -- I would like to set up a contest in the near future for the best human-written song (music and lyrics), with a $500 prize offered by yours truly. I would want at least 20 participants, and a panel of judges to pick the winner, and to also determine/judge if a song was actually written by a human being or a computer in order to levy disqualifications against the latter when warranted. π
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Joseph,
I don't really want to get the debate going again about the file structure. RDM has made it clear how he wants things to be just now, so I'm running with that. I could say a lot more, but I feel the need to keep the peace.
I didn't know or recall that @JT424 has no recorded material. In which case I don't see any harm in posting the lyrics here, though it does seem a bit unusual. I will check out what you said about leaving feedback - I think that's important. Hopefully they will see this and act accordingly. And, yes we are only supposed to post one song or lyric per day. Again, I'll keep my eyes open.
The competition idea is great idea in principal. It might spark a few song-writers into life! I'm not sure how it would work though. Also I would need to check with RDM about the forum rules regarding any kind of cash reward. Do get back if you decide that you want to try something like this and I'll help if I can.
All the best,
Chris

@ChrisPrice I respect what you're saying, but if that's true, why post "The current structure isn't set in stone, it's open to discussion." It seems disingenuous to post that it's open to discussion if it's really not. Maybe he meant privately in a PM.
Also, reading the topic you originally asked about, you may have forgotten about this:

You may not know this, but I once donated $50 to this forum to help it along and support it. Has anyone else ever donated money to this forum? With the current rules, I consider it money wasted now, but it was only $50 so no big deal. Yet, if I knew the forum would end up as a hodgepodge like this, I never would have donated money to it. I can't imagine donating to the forum again in its present form. Just one man's opinion! LOL! π
Cheers,
Joseph

O.K. here we go again,
It's like talking to a brick wall, logic implies the use of the scientific method to determine what is right and what is B.S.
So lets systematically assess this "logic"
One issue is that when one is away from the forum for a few days and returns, the forum is filled with mostly lyrics and AI content, while full songs penned by humans are already buried back on page two or three.
Data assessment as of 00:01 UK Time 09/10/2024
30 items on page 1 posted discussions, last one posted 01/10/2024, roughly takes a week to get from top to bottom,
Breakdown of those 30 posts
lyrics only 5 posts
Ai component 6 posts (mostly mine, marked with a prominent π °οΈ)
"Real Musicians" 19 posts
A couple of high-quality songwriters very recently posted nice new songs, yet their material is already buried back on pages two and three under a torrent of computer-generated songs and lyrics posts.
At the current rate of postings, this would be 2-3 weeks, buried, 19 posts under a combined 11, hardly a torrent now is it, or are you referring to the "human songwriters"?
a torrent of computer-generated songs
The actual number of computer-generated songs posted on this site = 0
There isn't one, not one, computer-generated song currently on this site.
This is misinformation which has been allowed to germinate unchecked apart from my own clarifications.
The only Ai component is a link to another site which can only be accessed by a conscious participant.
The current rules seem very unfair to human songwriters. Is it fair for humans to compete with computers for the attention of human ears and human eyes? Think about it.
The only postings on this site are from human songwriters, are you implying anyone who doesn't play an instrument and/or sing is sub-human?
βFirst they came forβ¦β
If it helps, to wade through this non-existent, torrent/tsunami of Ai postings, I suggest a simple signage, to enable anyone to discern what to look for, π °οΈfor contains Ai link, Β π± for lyrics only and for writers compositions πΎ.
In summary, it can be clearly seen that there is not one iota of facts contained in the proposed "logical" argument.

I think Owen's comment was dead right. Indeed, nothing is set in stone. No, I don't think it wast meant to be a PM and, yes, things could change in the future.
Point No 2..I had completely forgotten that thread!! To be honest, my memory doesn't go back that far, but fair comment.
As an ongoing contributor (small) myself, I'm really sorry you feel the way you do. The problem for me is that the current AI debate has got a bit out of hand & I take part of the blame for that. I hear what you are saying (and I agree with some of it), but we need to keep a sense of proportion. I would gladly discuss this with you further via PM or email. Like me, you've been here a while, and the very last thing I'd want to do is upset you in any way. We need you!!
I actually think that the forum is in a good place just now. Sure we could do with some more members/contributors..especially musicians. But I look at the alternatives and I still love it here.π

This is a very good idea as a starter, but does this Vanilla hosting platform allow posts to be filtered by the designated content as you described? For example, when logged in, could one filter for only WC? -- but let's change that to Original Composition (OC) to avoid the water closet jokes. LOL! Or maybe simply enact tags to filter for only OC (or L or A) or some combination thereof, if desired.
From my perspective, the forum is certainly large enough for all, and your idea goes part of the way toward making it a much better forum where content is easily filterable according to specific user preferences.

Respectfully, this is all beyond me now. I'll leave it with you!!π

Guys, you have completely derailed this thread. You are free to make these kinds of comments in the General Discussion area, but respect the original poster and stick to comments about their song here.
