Didn't Think I'd Get This Far

Not sure if I posted this here before, but this is a song from a couple of years ago that I recently went back and tried to fix up production wise. While I'm still not the best sound engineer in the world, I like to think I've at least improved from my earlier days. Also re-recorded some parts. The concept for this song comes from a Japanese manga series about two people who fall in love with each other for the first time, only to realize they don't actually know how to be in love. I thought this was a neat idea that you don't see much in the movies, the "what happens after Happily Ever After" sort of thing. And that's what I had attempted to capture lyric wise. Anyways, hope y'all enjoy!
Lyrics by Tommy L. Day
(v1)
Babe I’ve fantasized more than a bit
I’ve imagined every moment in my dreams
But now that I’m with you, I must admit
Love’s not as easy as it seems
(Chorus)
Didn’t think I’d get this far
I thought you’d turn me down for sure
But I’ve won your love somehow
What am I gonna do now?
(Bridge 1)
I want you so, and yet
There’s so much I’ll regret
If I don’t know how to love
(v2)
I’ve never kissed a girl, no, never held her near
Never gazed deep into her eyes
And so you see darlin’, I’ve got plenty to fear
For there’s no way I can disguise
(Chorus)
That I didn’t think I’d get this far
I thought you’d turn me down for sure
But I’ve won your love somehow
What am I gonna do now?
(Inst. bridge 2)
(v3)
Please, have mercy, girl, try to understand
If I say something that’s not right
I’m just a guy doing the best he can
To make your every cloudy day bright
(Chorus)
But I didn’t think I’d get this far
I thought you’d turn me down for sure
But I’ve won your love somehow
What am I gonna do now?
(Coda)
What am I gonna do now?

This was good and I enjoyed the lyrics and ethereal feeling it evokes. v3 was my favorite out of the song but the whole song is emotive and powerful. Especially since it's crafted using the simplest of words. I can almost feel the plea with each repetition of you asking what you're gonna do now.

Do enjoy all your submissions, this is no different. The lyrics and delivery tend to pick you up and smoothly carry you away to a better place. Good storyline, as you say, a path not often trod.
Keep sharing, a joy to listen.

@prysmatyk Thanks for listening! I almost considered calling it "What am I gonna do now?" based on that line, but I really liked the imagery of "didn't think I'd get this far". I feel a strong connection to these words since they're a bit autobiographical, I've never been in any kind of relationship so I genuinely wouldn't know how to do all of those things that some take for granted.
@sidshovel Hey Sid, thanks for the comment! Like I told prysmatyk, these lyrics hit pretty close to home for me :p. As soon as I got the initial inspiration, the words sort of just came pouring out. I'm glad you enjoyed!
