Midnight Lover (Yes Free Words)

Written as a poem and hopefully will inspire someone to create something.

In the velvet night’s caress,

Where whispers softly play,

A shadow's touch, so sweet, so less,

Starts weaving its display.

Oh, midnight lover, your name unsaid,

With eyes like stars that burn,

In dreams you find my lonely bed,

By dawn’s light, you adjourn.

Your breath, a mist upon my skin,

A gasp beneath moon’s glow.

Succubus, with your alluring sin,

Weave your tale, let love flow.

Oh, midnight lover, thy name unsaid,

With lips of sweetest thorn.

In silence comes your spectral tread,

In twilight you are born.

The night air hums your siren song,

A lure to realms unseen.

Your presence where the shadows throng,

A dance where love has been.

And should I wake before you flee,

I pray, keep this heart in thrall.

For in your chains, I long to be,

Enthralled beyond recall.

Oh, midnight lover, thy name unsaid,

Entwined in dreams’ embrace.

Succubus mine, by passion led,

Vanish without a trace.

In the hush before the dawn breaks free,

You slip away from sight.

A phantom kiss is all that’s left to me,

A memory of the night.

  • Very poetic! This line particularly caught my eye:

    Succubus, with your alluring sin,

  • Thanks for the compliment.
I tried so hard not to use the word succubus but could not find another suitable word. Ironic that you chose that line.
  • Yes, good lyrics. I can imagine someone having a crack at this with an acoustic guitar. I won't volunteer as my acoustic playing isn't strong enough. I'm too much of a strummer.

Hope somebody here gives it a try.😀

  • My lack of musical theory prevents me from being able to properly convert my poems into real lyrics without extensive effort. Since joining, I have begun reading a little about it as I hope to be able to be a valued member/contributor here. Before feeling as if I am, I need to understand much and thus my words will usually be improperly structured for music.

Hope someone does give this a shot and posts an audio track. I'd enjoy hearing someone vocalize something I wrote.
