Don’t tell me I’m sane

Don’t tell me I’m sane!
Verse
Life has been smooth sailing
No highs and no lows
Life keeps rolling along
No bumps in the road.
Work has no surprises
Same routine at home.
Life has become boring
But it’s all I know.
Chorus
Where’s the lunatic inside me?
Don’t tell me I’m sane!
Where’s the thunder and the lighting?
Where’s the driving rain?
Where’s the lunatic inside me?
Don’t tell me I’m sane!
Verse
I miss being crazy.
Getting drunk and high.
This sedate life of mine
Is like suicide.
I miss uncertainty.
New twists in the road.
I miss chasing rainbows
And searching for gold.
Chorus
Where’s the lunatic inside me?
Don’t tell me I’m sane!
Where’s the thunder and the lighting?
Where’s the driving rain?
Where’s the lunatic inside me?
Don’t tell me I’m sane!
Bridge
Was a full moon last night
when I heard the call.
It awoke what was sleeping
My friend alcohol.
Verse
There are rough seas ahead.
No safe harbors here.
For every hangover.
There’s plenty more beer.
This road is a rough one
Each turn is a thrill.
Don’t tell me don’t go there.
Cuz you know I will.
Chorus
Where’s the lunatic inside me?
Don’t tell me I’m sane!
Where’s the thunder and the lighting?
Where’s the driving rain?
Where’s the lunatic inside me?
Don’t tell me I’m sane!

  • This takes a sharp turn at the bridge! The first part reads fairly light and could appeal to a wide audience who feel themselves living fairly mundane lives.

The bridge really changes that by choosing alcohol and the chaos it will bring. You might lose some of that audience there, but that's a choice about what the song's message is to be.

This one feels more like Rock than Country.

  • Definitely more of a rock song. ALA Shine Down
