finger still in the pie lyrics

verse 1
Jack never worried, they were all the same to him
Single, split, broads, labels on a tin
They were just fair game, open season so to speak
Others sowed their wild oats, he really didn't care
The field of play was large, and it got his juices flowing
He was in and out and gone, like he'd never been there
verse 2
Soon the story passed, from mound to ground
about Jack-the-lad, spreading his seed around
His fame grew, and was whispered far and wide
A legend fed by others, planted in his own mind
If the truth be told, as it's so often sold
There was no one like Jack , he was one of a kind
chorus 1
It's better than nothing
Or a stick in the eye
If you went and got caught
With your finger still in the pie
verse 3
A man of many talents, they lined up for their share
Always enough to go round, even some going spare
Like most things you shouldn't be doing
They get hidden or more likely buried
But before you know, they'll begin to show
Then people will panic and start to get worried
chorus 2
It's better than nothing
Or a stick in the eye
If you went and got caught
With your finger still in the pie
bridge
Nine months later, there's no going back
The proof's in the pudding they're coming for Jack
He's talked the talk, now he must walk the walk
They yell out his name, Good old Jack the Beanstalk.
chorus 3
It's better than nothing
Or a stick in the eye
If you went and got caught
With your finger still in the pie
outro
Yummy!
postscript: This is really an intro but for obvious reasons had to be put here
One of the first songs I wrote was after watching a bio of an old music hall singer called George Formby
His style was a bit like Benny Hill and used a technique called the "double entendre" (definition below)
Double entendres generally rely on multiple meanings of words, or different interpretations of the same primary meaning. They often exploit ambiguity and may be used to introduce it deliberately in a text.
In my song above the words effectively describe what is happening, it is the interpretation of those words in the listeners mind that conjures up a false progression and projected conclusion to the song.

Another cool set of lyrics, Sid! It sounds like Jack may be in for a shotgun wedding! LOL!
Nine months later, there's no going back
The proof's in the pudding they're coming for Jack
Nice work as usual! 😀
Cheers,
Joseph
