What would Jesus say

What would Jesus say
Verse
He’s nobody, he’s nobody
Why should you even care?
Why should you even give a damn?
He has no coat to wear.
It’s seven below and snowing.
He’s living on the street.
Why should you even give a damn?
He has no food to eat.
Pre chorus
You could turn up your collar?
You could walk away?
But what would a good man do?
What would Jesus say?
Chorus
Could have been you at one time
But fate had other plans.
Someone saw a nobody.
Lent you a helping hand.
Verse
He’s nobody, he’s nobody
You could drive right on by.
You could go home to your warm bed
Or do what you thinks right.
You’ve got an extra overcoat.
A room where he can stay.
You could buy him dinner tonight.
Bet it would make his day.
Pre chorus
You could turn up your collar?
You could walk away?
But what would a good man do?
What would Jesus say?
Chorus
Could have been you at one time
But fate had other plans.
Someone saw a nobody.
Lent you a helping hand.
Bridge
They gave you some clothes to wear
They found you a place to stay.
You got a second chance at life
You’ll do the same today.

Well done Caroll, another brilliant social commentary, excellent.

Reminiscent of "streets of london", always one of my favourites.

Songwriter and a crusader, don't stop, you're too good!

Powerful lyrics for sure! Reminds us how fortunate we are and ideally, we should help those in need. "but for the grace of God go I" I like these lyrics a lot!

  • Good angle Carrol , not sure it's been done

    Git er done

  • That the narrator was once in a similar position and was helped, gives it a unique feel. Though as a call to action it removes it slightly from the listener, so a tradeoff to be made there.

You might try to avoid the repeat on "Why should you even give a damn?" in verse 1.

I'm not sure it needs the reference to Jesus. It's more about passing forwards what was done for him. I think you could choose to make it:

But what would a good man do?

    What was done for you?

and it would flow equally well. Having "What would Jesus say" as the title feels slightly out to me.

Overall it's a strong message, and a good take on it.
