King and the Crown

Oh no, I feel so low

The king and the crown

We mix our feelings up like alcohol and Valium

Hello, we've got to go

It's heating up now

Before the coming storms

We're fixing for a floor

And I don't think you're perfect, but that don't matter now

You don't think I'm worth it, I can't change your mind

Oh no, it starts to show, a break in the ice

Before you're waging war, you're always on time

Hello, we've got to go

It's heating up now

Before the calming storms

You swim or you down

And I don't think you're perfect, but that don't matter now

You don't think I'm worth it, I can't change your mind

  • This is an interesting song. Meandering guitars and keys and a vocal style which took me a couple of listens to get used to. I confess that I don't understand the lyrics, though I do like the line 'We mix our feelings up like alcohol and valium'. This track has an almost psychedelic feel though I'm not sure if that was the intention. I think it would benefit from a shift of some sort somewhere along the way as it's pretty much the same all the way through. But I enjoyed listening to this. It's a bit different, and that's no bad thing.😀

  • Obviously a relationship song, but lots there for the listener to interpret.

I think the chorus is the strongest part, as it should be!

I feel the particular piano voice you're using is muddying things a little, whereas the guitar is very clean (and is the main accompaniment). If the piano is digital you might try swapping in a different one or lowering piano in the mix. Or you can disagree completely!!

Hi I prefer to write a review without reading what others have put, so I'm not influenced

I like this, I don't know much about music, but I like what you've done to get your voice harmonised or whatever it is. Really flows for me. Listened to it a few times, not good at reviews (don't really know I'm talking about)

Just really liked your voice, I thought it had a psychedelic feel about it. Found it a calming song, chilled me, 8/10.

In the old days, I think a 12" version would work well, mixing it up a bit. I quite liked not really understanding the lyrics - allows you to your own interpretation, which works for me- adds a bit of psychedelic mystery.

  • @DSaylor . . . what I really enjoyed here was how different this song is, different in a well done way, refreshing to hear a very different approach. At first listen, the guitar and keyboard part are doing something totally different from each other, yet they do work and come together at times . . . I thought that was kind of like the relationship described in the lyric, but not sure if you intended that ?

It's very loose rhythmically, but that's kind of part of the charm it has for me . . . drums or percussion would obviously wreck it. The first verse sounded like a man and woman singing together, but later on it sounds like just one vocal, harmonized and doubled. The vocals are extremely well done I think . . . a very well written song.

Most intriguing, I hope to hear some more of your stuff . . .
