DOWN ALONG THE NILE
Whispered underneath her breath her name was Judas
She says don't need no bed to keep you warm
You just fan the flames of hell
Until they rise up from the well
Desperation takes on many forms
I told I'd never been to Memphis
To Cairo or down along the Nile
She said take a look behind
And you will find you lead the blind
Straight into the mouth of a crocodile
In the streets of London she was a fiddler
In the streets of Paris she was a saint
In the streets of Rome she set fire to every home
Until the burned her at the stake
Sold into slavery at breakfast
Freed from her bondage in the afternoon
When she tore that dress she wore
Two villages fought a war
While the local priests were left howling at the moon
I believe she said life is a carnival
Or perhaps its a gypsy fairytale
She said if I had to lie
Well I'd say you made me cry
Never been any reason to reveal

I don't really follow this one. I don't get the overall meaning. It's got some lovely lines though. I particularly like the part that goes:
"In the streets of ..."
And for me the music is a little similar in that I don't know what mood the lyric should have, and the music seems a bit non-committal.
It's quite easy on the ear, but I don't know what I should take from it.
