Original Song - In Time For The Spring

Here is another one of the tunes from my recently released 5th studio album - "What Goes Around Comes Around".

The name of this tune is - "In Time For The Spring". It is about redemption and coming back home to start afresh, to start anew

The lyrics are as below:

The wind held its sway

In its promise to keep me warm

And whispered my name

Right in the eye of the storm

With the stillness around

I could negotiate

Few moments of peace

Before the levee breaks

Time had arrived

Tracing my reverie

We walked hand in hand

Past all my memories

Of my chequered life

With all of its promises

Those that survived

And the ones that never saw the light of the day

Some drifted away

In the wild summer swing

And never returned

In Time For The Spring

The storm passed away

Leaving its legacy

In its fury and rage

I found my sanctuary

In the remains of the day

I found those shattered dreams

Those that drifted away

Swept by the summer breeze

They went too far away

Wondering

Now they long to return

In Time For The Spring

The wind calls my name again

Whispering

It will carry me home

In Time For The Spring

In the arms of the spring

In the house of the sun

I can still find a place

When I come undone

Beautiful song well delivered with an amazing vocal range. Lovely lyrics using a range of rhyming forms.

Enjoyed it very much, well done.

@arnabs you have falsetto in this one, could hear you singing Doo wop or 50's songs.

You should try singing in the still of the night as a cover...or billy joels...the longest time. You would kill it in a jazz cover.

I enjoyed your song. So tasteful, not an ounce of negativity.

It's a shame classic jazz is losing it's audience. But good some like yourself are still doing it.

I also like that one part that sounded a bit "cool jazz".

High quality, tasteful stuff...unusual in today's market
  • Lovely! All the strengths I saw in your previous song! Are you playing piano on this one?

I might have brought the drums in a touch earlier at "With the stillness around", but that's personal choice. When they do come in, they are exactly the right flavour.

You've gone for brass (trumpet?) as accompaniment / highlights, which is a classic jazz choice, but with your skills you could also opt for elec guitar (assuming you play that as well as acoustic) and maybe save brass for the solo? I feel like the brass is competing with the vocal a little in places.

I like the background vocals too. Subtle, but really adding depth.

The "What Goes Around Comes Around" message is coming thru loud and clear in the lyric.

    Good job!

@RainyDayMan - thats a really incisive critique of the song from all aspects. Really appreciate that.

Yes I do play the piano here. I feel the texture of the electric guitar might be a tad bit harsh for this sensitive song, hence the choice was for a saxophone. I also wanted to go for a classic quintet setup for this ballad.

Yes I agree, that the saxophone might be competing with the vocal in a few places. I could have sorted that out in the mix, I did try quite a bit as well but sometimes you just can't fix everything.

Thanks for this detailed analysis. Really helps me understand the listener's perspective :)

@Domd - That is so nice to hear :) It's a great feeling when the song you create sits so well with someone listening and if that someone is as discerning as you then its pure gold!

I love "For The Longest Time". Its a challenging doo-woop song to arrange and nail to the last detail but sure I could consider trying it at some point :)

I feel great to share my song in this forum and have genuine ears listen to them :) Thanks

  • You're a multi-talented musician then!

All my comments are only ever: have you thought about ...X And clearly in terms of the Elec Guitar you already have!

And I agree that you can rarely get things 100%, especially not versus the sound you hear in your head!

This is a lovely song and a strong mix.

  • @arnabs Lovely song through and through. What a voice you have! May your album do well.

@MoraAmaroLaLoba - Thank you my friend :) It's so nice to hear that. Those piano chords are what I started with and then everything else was revealed in the process. Always a very mystical feeling.
