The writings on the wall
[verse]
The fog of depression is settling in.
The suns’ still low in the sky.
I’m close to the bottom of the bottle
and I have tears in my eyes.
[pre chorus]
I know we should talk but I'm afraid.
She’ll say what I don’t want to hear.
The truth is I know that it’s over
and it has been for a year.
[chorus]
Lord knows she’s tried and so have I.
but the writings on the wall.
Yes, the writings on the wall.
[verse]
She doesn’t have to spell it out to me.
Doesn’t need to say the words.
I see it in her eyes, hear it in her voice.
That I’ve already lost her.
[pre chorus]
It’s no use begging for her to stay.
She’s already made up her mind.
She gets dolled up and goes out at night.
I think she’s found another guy.
[chorus]
Lord knows she’s tried and so have I
but the writings on the wall.
Yes, the writings on the wall.
[Bridge]
I don’t need a translator.
Everything is clear.
My suspicions are correct.
it’s just as I feared.
[verse]
The closet is empty, she’s packed her bags.
Her ring is on the nightstand.
There’s no need for her to leave me a note.
She knows that I’ll understand.
[Outro]
Lord knows she’s tried and so have I
but the writings on the
wall.
Yes, the writings on the wall.

A depressing song, but it conveys that really well. There's no doubt how this man is feeling.
The chorus feels a little short to me, but that does depend on the music it's set to.
As a suggestion:
Lord knows she’s tried and so have I.
but the writings on the wall.
In letters written ten feet tall
Yes, the writings on the wall.

@carroll Love the visuals you used in showing it's over, she's leaving. Also, a very cohesive lyric going along with your title. And I love Owen's suggestion; really brings it home and adds a visual.
Have you considered using backing tracks on YouTube to set your words to music? I use them all the time as I don't excel at the music part. The trick is to find the track that sets the tone and one with the right length tho' I use the long ones and just cut-off at the end. There are TONS of backing tracks to choose from on YouTube and I suppose elsewhere online. Once you get the hang of 'em, they're pretty easy to use. Just a suggestion.
Keep 'em coming, Cowboy!

That came out well. It's a bit more upbeat than I was imagining, but that's a choice. Makes it a bit more commercial friendly.
