The Better Part of Me

Oddly @ElvisNash is doing cool experimental tracks and I've written a country song. Oh how the table turns! 🤣

Frankly I think I repeat the chorus 1 too many times and I keep meaning to re sing the vocal but to hell with it for now... In tradition country style a miserable lyric dressed up in a cheerful song that's reminiscent of about 17 pre existing country songs!

The Better Part of Me

Tall dreams of yesterday

And all the loves that slipped away

Tell me that the pain don’t hurt you too?

When all is past and been and gone

And all you do is follow on

The path that’s laid so straight and true for you

Return me to the days I was beholden

To nothing and to no one I could see

Take me to the time so great and golden

And there I’ll find the better part of me

Kissing all the girls I had

Making good of falling bad

Is it really so sad to want to go?

Holding all the friends who laughed

At every joke I made by craft

It’s easy to look up now I’m laid low

Return me to the days I was beholden

To nothing and to no one I could see

Take me to the time so great and golden

And there I’ll find the better part of me

I remember mum and dad

Holding hands when I was a lad

Until I grew too big for my own boots

I fled the nest at nearest chance

To make my stance amid the dance

Only to loose the place of my own roots

Return me to the days I was beholden

To nothing and to no one I could see

Take me to the time so great and golden

And there I’ll find the better part of me

Return me to the days I was beholden

To nothing and to no one I could see

Take me to the time so great and golden

And there I’ll find the better part of me

  • Catchy tune, CCB! Good vocals, clever lyrics, and a cool hook. I liked your creative use of the old-west saloon piano in spots. I enjoyed listening. Nice work! 😀

  • Well I like it better then these boring country songs that all sound the same on radio CC

    Good job man !!!

  • Hi @icystorm

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I must admit I like the slightly comical piano too. I was going to do an old classic country piano style solo, getting the right piano sound etc and then just played that simple arpeggio and thought "Well, I ain't besting that - job done".🤣👌

    Hi @ElvisNash

You are the king of country round these here parts, so I appreciate your kind words. 👍️

No problemo! I had forgotten that the old western style saloon piano was called a tack piano. Among the many westerns I've heard it played in, the first time it really stood out to me was a Star Trek episode called "Spectre of the Gun", which was a western-sci-fi episode. LOL! Anyway, the tack piano in that episode stood out because of how eerie it sounded. It's sort of wild to thing that people back in the 19th century were banging out old tunes on dusty tack pianos in saloons in the unsettled American west. LOL! 🤣 Anyway, good job on your song again, CCB! Enjoyable! 😀

Myself was thinking of doing a country song!!! but,, just a thought.

I liked it a lot, your country style has a rich pantone of sounds!! some times Irish or similar but always country. It's really catchy, full of vitality and good vibe!! Enjoyed it a lot. @CorkingCrackBand

  • This feels more like the band "Madness" than country to me. But since I like them, I can say I like this too!

Great chorus, made me want to sing along. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • I love Madness so I can accept that. 👍️ I thought it may be more up your street @RainyDayMan. I appreciate my more esoteric side isn't for everyone... kind of by definition. 🤣

    Thanks for listening and commenting.
