@sidshovel - Truth in words. very well articulated. I really wish I could write the way you, own, elvis, now tammy write. no matter how hard I try, it always descends back into poetry or abstraction. that and lately because of events out of my control, i've been in an introspective mood lately.

Imagine your explaining your song to someone, {me} in simplistic terms, write down the explanation and rhyme that. It's only a mindset of what you are doing now!

Good for you Bill, now write a song about stealing a hook and turning it into a hit! Express the guys guilt of his success riding on the tail of some one else's work. Plenty of scope there to come up with a good piece. With your talent, no problem!

@TammyB - thanks for the compliment, but hardly a pioneer. prog /experimental rock been around since the 60's. There is a band, trying track down again, where specific words are used to enhance the melody. They'll say things like "The house, green car automates", has no meaning, but come alive when you listen to the song.
