Still Missin' You
Good mornin', Ya'll! This song goes out to my ex-boyfriend of 18 years, Downtown Lew Brown, a great lead guitarist and songwriter.
Anyway, as I struggled to change my guitar strings yesterday, I once again realized how much I miss Lew tho' it's been several years since we parted; but 18 years together was a long time. I don't often write love songs so when one comes along, I welcome it. I know the hook is really cliche. Prayerfully, I made it my own well enough.
Any feedback is appreciated.

STILL MISSIN’ YOU
[Verse 1]
Well, I managed to change my guitar strings today
If it was all that I could do
Tho’ it seems a lifetime ago since we parted
I’m still missin’ you
[Chorus]
I know it’s been said before
And it’ll be said some more:
I’m missin’ you, babe
I miss your smile
And I miss your kiss
I miss you to this day
[Verse 2]
And I miss that beef stroganoff ya’d make for my birthday
And your kind eyes of baby-blue
From a thousand miles away, we hardly talk anymore
But I’m still missin’ you
[Chorus]
I know it’s been said before
And it’ll be said some more:
I’m missin’ you, babe
I miss your smile
And I miss your kiss
I miss you to this day
[Bridge]
A jack of all trades, master of none
You were the best thing under the hot sun
I still have that sea glass you gave to me
And there ain’t no ocean in Tennessee
[Chorus]
I know it’s been said before
And it’ll be said some more:
I’m missin’ you, babe
I miss your smile
And I miss your kiss
I miss you to this day
[Music]
[Chorus 1/2]
I know it’s been said before
And it’ll be said some more:
I’m missin’ you, babe
I’m still missin’…
[Chorus]
I know it’s been said before
And it’ll be said some more:
I’m missin’ you, babe
I miss your smile
And I miss your kiss
I miss you to this day

@bhengen thanks for your comment; I wasn't certain guys would get it that it's a struggle for some of us ladies to change guitar strings. After all these years, it still is! 😥 so far as Lew goes, we still do talk/text once in awhile but lesser as time goes on which is to be expected. It was my decision to leave; maybe I should have covered that in the song; I dunno. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
Have a lovely day,
Renee

@HummerWisdom - that's a big point to leave out :).. somewhere put in it was a hard decision to make, but you felt it was time to move on.

Been there. Written songs about it 😂, or should that be 😪
I like the lyric. Simple, honest, from the heart, as most good songs are. Can you finger pick? I have a feeling you might be able to match the emotional tone better that way than with the strumming here. I ask that as someone whose guitar skills are negligible!
These lines seem a bit cramped and awkward for you to sing:
"You were the best thing under the hot sun
I still have that sea glass you gave to me"
How about stripping away unnecessary words:
"The best thing under the hot sun
Still have the sea glass you gave me"
I really like the line that follows these two:
"And there ain’t no ocean in Tennessee"

And there ain’t no ocean in Tennessee. Best line ever made
Sounds good Renee , I got ex's in 3 states

We often tend to leave out the bits of our contributions to a break-up, which I suppose is natural. When the neutral listens however, they hear a blame game playin' out, rather than the true circumstances.
I tend to put in who left who an' then build on that from both sides.
Good song Renee, enjoyed it,
Sid

@ElvisNash thank you for that. While I can't take credit for some lines I use such as the 'Land of Milk and Money', 'Ain't no ocean in Tennessee' is ALL my own! 😍

@OnlyGavin thank you for your suggestions. I agree the Bridge is much too busy. Will try out your suggestions. And yes, I can fingerpick but I SUCK at it! As I SUCK at guitar in general. But I could give it a try.
Thanks so much💌!

I like how this has all the details of changing guitar strings, making stroganoff etc - makes it feel very real (which of course it is). Then the camera sort of pans out for the chorus. It's a nice combo.
Well done Renee.

Hi Owen! @RainyDayMan didn't expect you to be chiming on while you were away. Ah, you must be back! Thanks so much for your 'music to my ears' compliment. These up, close and personals aren't so easy to write most times. This one sort 'a flowed out upon changing my guitar strings; so yes, all too true story!
Appreciate you very much!
