That's Truly Free

Hello! Just want to say thank you for the motivation you all have given me here on TSF. I suppose when you know somebody is listening to your songs it makes it more worthwhile to write. Wrote this one last night and it seems to be gaining some steam over at SoundCloud which is a good feeling. I know it's not going anywhere but I really don't care as I write to write.

Anyway, on this prison-planet we seem to be headed quickly toward, I hope this song affords you the freedom to use your writing as a tool of freedom. For without Poetic License, we truly are of the walking dead.

Any feedback is welcome ===> https://soundcloud.com/reneelachapelle/thats-truly-free

THAT’S TRULY FREE

[Intro]

A blank piece of paper

And a pen

A blank piece of paper, a pen and me

That’s truly free

[Verse 1]

Sayin’ what I came to say

Sayin’ it my own way

Sayin’ what I came to say whether or not you agree

That’s truly free

[Bridge]

Don’t need the Left

Don’t need the Right

No donkeys and elephant’s tellin’ me how to be

That’s truly free

do-do-do-do-do-do, do-do-do, do

[Verse 2]

They can slice us and dice us

Try to divide us

But that doesn’t mean we need to buckle at our knees

That’s truly free

[Verse 3]

Sparrow or starling

Both of ‘em are darling

Birds make the world go ‘round like a sweet dream

And that’s truly free

[Bridge]

Don’t need the Left

Don’t need the Right

No donkeys and elephant’s tellin’ me how to be

That’s truly free

do-do-do-do-do-do, do-do-do, do

[Outro]

A blank piece of paper

And a pen

A blank piece of paper, a pen and me

That’s truly free.

  • @HummerWisdom - Renee, true sentiment.

  • We do indeed have a lot of freedom to express ourselves in song.

    Nice write!

As a suggestion, on your second bridge you could vary it slightly:

No donkeys and elephant’s tellin’ me what's right

(doesn't rhyme with 'me' anymore, but it rhymes with the prev line)
