The Lilies

SADLY, the larger majority of society would consider this lyric to be racist. I don't see it that way. I see it as a hard truth and an appreciation for my own race and culture of which is fading fast in all western nations. Also, I'm brown-eyed so there's that. That said, any feedback is welcome.

THE LILIES

[Verse 1]

As I walk the strip mall, the west side

Comes a bombshell, can’t let it slide

Numbers don’t lie, we’ve been eclipsed

These words fall from my grieving lips:

[Chorus]

Snow-white, blue-eyed and bright

Where have all the lilies gone?

Upon the hill, that glowing light

Where have all the lilies gone?

[Verse 2]

Rosey smiles, quaint hellos

The loveliest ladies, handsome fellows

Good-natured and neighborly

A way of life, praiseworthy

[Chorus]

Snow-white, blue-eyed and bright

Where have all the lilies gone?

Upon the hill, that glowing light

Where have all the lilies gone?

mm-mmm, mm-mmm, mm

[Verse 3]

Blotted out at every turn

Enough to make wheels spin and churn

Rundown doormats, stepping aside

Fading fast from the countryside

[Chorus]

Snow-white, blue-eyed and bright

Where have all the lilies gone?

Upon the hill, that glowing light

Where have all the lilies gone?

mm-mmm, mm-mmm, mm

[Tag]

As I walk the strip mall, the west side

Comes a bombshell, can’t let it slide, mm-m

  • I can understand the feeling. It's disturbing to see familiar things change, and to have people around you feel like strangers. It sends danger signals to our brains.

In the larger picture, your ancestors are just one wave of migration that has occurred, as are mine here in Australia. They were not the first, and they won't be last. Originally we all come from Africa. Maybe one day we'll all be such a mishmash that everyone will look the same. Who knows?
