Fool For Love

I'd like to preface by saying that I'm a lyricist with all my own melodies in mind. I'm a pretty decent vocalist, too, but all I play is the drums, so all my recordings are currently a capella. That's why I've been experimenting with A.I. to bring my songs to life in a way I've never been able to. I want to show that it doesn't have to undermine one's creativity, but can actually help it flourish.

All my songs are 100% my own words and arrangements, brought as closely as possible to how I hear them in my mind's eye, through much trial and error. It's not as simple as plugging them in and clicking "Create"—my process is a little more involved than that. That said, I only ask that you base your judgment solely on the lyrics and structure themselves, and not the fact that I'm not the one (presently) performing them. But I also hope you enjoy the songs, as well, because I think they turned out pretty darn well.

Thank you so much for reading and, hopefully, listening. I encourage any and all feedback. :)

I've played a fool for love.

Yeah, love, it bullied me around;

First it pushed me, then it shoved me down,

And I have yet to get up...

I've played a fool for love.

Yeah, love, it knocked me to the ground,

Put a foot against my throat,

And it has yet to let up...

Yeah, it has yet to let up...

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

I've played a fool for love...

I played a fool for love...

I stepped right into her lair,

And she was waiting there for me.

From that moment, I was so ensnared,

I'd forgotten how to breathe.

My heart, entangled in her web,

Just barely hanging by a thread,

That was dangling from my sleeve.

Oh, how could I be so damn ignorant?

How could I be so naive?

To play the fool for love...

I was a fool for love...

It takes a fool for love...

To play the role thereof...

I fell in love with the pain,

As it consumed me from the inside out.

She'd suck the blood out of my every vein,

But it would never be enough.

She just kept coming back for more

Of that sweet life-force energy,

That was dripping from my every pore.

She'd keep sipping from her Krazy straw,

Like it was no big deal at all;

She would just sit there and guffaw...

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

I played the fool for you!

I could have long escaped my fate.

But I stayed to help you save your soul,

Only to damn that of my own, (so you wouldn't be alone).

And if this is the thanks I get,

Have fun drinking all of my regrets away...

You've played the fool for love

(For the last time).

You've played the fool for love—

(No, I won't be played anymore).

You've played the fool for love

(For the last time).

You've played the fool for love—

(Nor will I reverse the roles)...

I've

Played

The

Fool for love.

For the last time,

Am I the fool for love.

You've played the fool for love.

(For the last time)

Am I the fool for love.

I've played the fool for love.

(For the last time)

Am I the fool for love.

I've played the fool for love.

(For the last time)

Am I the fool for love.

  • Very good song, enjoyed that.

    Well done.

    Constructive comment:

Sounds like you used 2-3 shoe-ins in a few places.

Guffaw, thereof and sleeve tend to stick out a bit.

Nothing major, but worth mentioning maybe.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Sideshovel,

I appreciate the kind words and your going out of your way to read/listen, as well as the constrictive criticism.

    Thank you so much!

That said, I will defend that usage of "guffaw" to my dying breath. 😆

  • New word for me, "guffaw" had to go an' look it up! And yes, @BowieBoii you are a terrific vocalist. And whoa! While AI is NOT for me, I see how it works beautifully. Nice song. But I'm sort 'a with Sid on 'guffaw' but I see how it rhymes. Your song, your choice of words!

    Nice to meet you,

    HummerWisdom aka Renee

  • That's a great sound. Very smooth and polished. There are tools that can strip out just the vocal if you want to sing it yourself, but you certainly don't need to!

I particularly like the ending. AIs can have difficulty finding a good way to end a song, they can feel abrupt, but your musical tag line works really well.

    Feels very professional.

  • @HummerWisdom (Renee), you are too kind! I'm sorry to say, this isn't me singing. I'd say [unfortunately], but I'm happy with my voice and have bits and pieces of recordings of myself singing it, and wish to fully record it on my own someday soon, but this is the A.I. I've simply been using it as a way to showcase what I've written and give my otherwise dead text a little life.

But I'm so glad you like how it turned out. And I am truly grateful for the comment. To you, as well, @sidshovel. I apologize for failing to properly tag you before.

It's nice to meet you, too, Renee. :)

Thank you both for the warm welcome.

  • @RainyDayMan, that's a great idea! Kind of like karaoke, but for my own song. I'll look into doing that. Thank you so much for the suggestion. As well as for the lovely feedback. :)

It's true, though—sometimes it likes to go rogue and just repeat random parts of the song without sticking to the written arrangement. I lucked out on this one. Lol

Maybe I'll re-share it when I put my own vocals to it. Thank you again!

  • Nice work, great lyrics. Lyrical Alchemy? Very interesting concept, I'm checking out some of your other stuff.

  • Bowie,

Very nice and polished, your vocals are way more than decent. It could just be me, but I got hung up on this line

"First it pushed me, then it shoved me down" I couldn't help but think that it should have pulled you then shoved you down.

Kinda nitpicky but like I said it could just be me. Overall, very easy listen. As a lyricist who has a melody when writing myself, I would love to hear more about the process of creating the music.
