State of the Art
My wife and I are a few days away from our wedding anniversary, so I thought I'd share this one.
When I started writing the verses I had a more lighthearted and humorous feel in mind, kinda along the lines of certain John Prine songs. However, it came out far more sappy. But it brings happy tears to my wife's eyes, so job done!

State of the Art
You can take the wheels from my car
You can take the chain from my bike
Take the strings from my only guitar
Take anything that you like
But you can't take the love from my heart
We don't come apart
So try as you will if it gives you a thrill
But we're state of the art
Make me drive from quarter to five
Til the night has come and gone
Hide the map that shows where I'll arrive
Keep me endlessly moving along
But just know, wherever I roam
If she's with me I'm home
The roots of our tree are as big as can be
And they continue to grow
I wouldn't be half the man that I am
If she hadn't crossed in my path
Call me crazy, I don't give a damn
I'm happy in the aftermath
Put me down in a basement flat
Lock the door with a bolt and a chain
Disassemble the thermostat
Cut the power at the electrical mains
But as long as my love's at my side
I'm gonna live there with pride
Her affection alone is its own climate zone
And that can't be denied
So say what you will if it gives you a thrill
Our love will abide

If it has brought tears to your wife's eyes, then it is done!
I think the tone is just right. It's meant to be loving.
Lovely.
