Blame It On God

For me, the following subject is the toughest to write. Any feedback is greatly appreciated before it goes to song. I'm thinking starting off with G Em C D and see where it goes. Thank you for your time and have a glorious writing day. Thanking God for each and every one here on TSF.

BLAME IT ON GOD

[Verse 1]

Don’t know how He takes it

Why He doesn’t turn me to dust

Hatin’ on the one who loves me

When He’s the one to trust

And I hate myself for saying:

‘God dammit’ when I do

I should be praying instead

When I’m feeling blue

[Chorus]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

[Verse 2]

He’s slippery, that ol’ snake

Turning things upside down

Comes off the angel of light

The Devil’s what you found

I know I don’t deserve it

Don’t deserve a second shot

I should be struck by lightening

But the bad guy, God’s not

[Chorus]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

[Bridge]

Seems the whole world blames it on God

It’s an epidemic!

Seems the whole world blames it on God

It’s schizophrenic!

[Instrumental]

[Verse 3]

Don’t know how He takes it

Why He doesn’t turn me to dust

Hatin’ on the one who loves me

When He’s the one to trust

And I hate myself for saying:

‘God dammit’ when I do

I should be praying instead

Knowing He’ll see me through

[Chorus]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

[Chorus/Tag]

When you’re out ‘a straw-men

Can’t go through it again

The most perfect patsy there’s ever been:

Blame it on God

Blame it on God

Go ahead an’ blame it on God all you want to

But God knows better, yeah-ee-yeh

God Knows Better.

  • Highly personal subject, the toughest kind to write! Kudos to tackle the hard yards.

Not easy but you did it well.

    Good song.

  • I absolutely love these lyrics. I don't really have anything else to say but that.

  • @OutOfTowner thank you so much!

  • @sidshovel thanks so much, Sid!

  • Feels very intimate and personal, and that's a wonderful thing to have in a song.

Kudos for sharing some of that inner conflict we all feel from time to time.

Thank you, Owen. I might have a bit more inner conflict than some. But as you know, every little bit helps in songwriting. Now, you guys got me wantin' to record this one (my least favorite part).
