Life Isn't Drama

Life Isn't Drama

Our life is so quiet

We mostly stay home

Tending the garden

Ignoring the phone

Cleaning the kitchen

Sweeping the floor

Watching a movie

We've both seen before

Life isn't drama

and no one's a star

there's nobody watching

to rate your score

but I feel fine

You're cooking up pasta

I'm playing guitar

Watching you swaying

How beautiful you are

No, life isn't drama

there's no secret truth

no one is looking

but I'm looking at you

and I feel fine

home is your head on my shoulder

holding your hand as we grow older

the smile and wave

that I see every day

Life is the small things

All the parts that don't fit

Gathered up in loving arms

To share and laugh at it

And I feel fine

  • Wow Owen, this tugs the heartstrings. You have captured this sense of enduring love between two people as they grow and age together. It is beautiful and touching in a real-life way. Well written and performed!

  • I recognise your guitar style right away. This is a lovely song. As Andrea says, it's well written and performed. I like the middle8 - some nice chord work happening in there. Great lyrics too. I like the sentiments. I really enjoyed this Owen.😀

  • nice vibe and guitar works

like the bossa style that gives a nice swing

    to it all

  • Hi RDM,

    Lovely song, and beautiful lyrics.

I dig the guitar accompaniment. Very simple words, simple life, beautiful scene.

Unfortunately life is so full of drama, and to be able to keep it simple and true is a struggle.

Your vocals is so warm, and the melody so nice, lulls me to keep my head on your shoulder.

    Love this recording.

  • Hola @RainyDayMan

It's the first song of the new forum that I listen to!!! the song has a very natural sound and way of going on, love the lyrics!!!

  • Owen, Glad to see the site up and running again. Really nice tune and lyrics with all the every day references! I'd love to hear some type of instrumental bridge that maybe introduces some other instrument into the mix. Piano, sax, or strangely I even hear some type of up front base that maybe carries over into the rest of the piece.

  • Beautiful, simple lyric and the soft vocal and accompaniment fit the mood really well. As Tom points out, you could add some more instrumentation, maybe a gentle jazzy sax, but, on the other hand, keeping it simple does tie in with the "no drama" idea.

    Thanks everyone!

@Andrea That is exactly what I was hoping for.

@ChrisPrice Thank you! The middle 8 chords are Cmaj7 Dsus2 (x2) then Em Dsus (x2). Nice and simple, but they give a good feel, and the whole melody is meant to be simple like that.

@remfire Thanks! Seldom do people comment on the rhythm. Appreciated!

@ReneAsologuitar Being lulled to sleep by this one seems appropriate! Thanks for listening 😃

@MoraAmaroLaLoba Thank you Mora! Glad you made your way here 😃

@Tom W Yes, there is lots of room for additional instrumentation and perhaps a solo. I wanted to record it this way first because if it works with just guitar and vocal, then it will certainly work with a richer instrumentation.

@OnlyGavin Thank you. Simplicity and authenticity are at the heart of this one. If it ever went to a "production" version I would definitely look to bring in other instruments.

  • Very mellow and enjoyable atmosphere, Owen! The production is crystal clear. I like the music, your guitar work, vocals, and lyrics. Nice work!

    Cheers,

    Joseph

  • @icystorm Thanks Joseph! Glad you made your way here 😀
