Boulevard (Marguerite-de-Rochechouart)

I did a Dad n daughter short stay in Paris this October. We stayed at a hotel close to the Gare Du Nord (railway station). It’s in a very rough area, but just up the road is the Boulevard Margeurite De Rochechouart which is every bit as wonderful as it’s name. Montmartre & Sacre Coeur are off to the right. There’s great bars and eateries all over the place, and about 20 minutes walk away is La Cigale..a famous venue where, on our first trip there last year, we saw Anglo/French rock guitarist/singer/songwriter Laura Cox and her excellent band. On this our 2nd trip we ventured a bit further to La Moulin Rouge to see their brilliant stage show. On the way out I had a lousy mishap with a glass door which left me with a huge dressing on my nose for the rest of the break!! I also thought we were going to wind up in the slammer when we got detained by passport control as we tried to board the Eurostar for the return journey!! Ha ha...😂

I got a song out of it...

Cigarettes and contraband, Poulet Rôti and market stands

Tramps and thieves along Barbès, by the bridge I’ll meet you there

At a bistro with a rainbow, and it ain’t so far

Hey babe we gotta raise a glass to the boulevard….

Marguerite-de-Rochechouart

Barbès metro station, could be two or three stops away

In Pigalle at La Cigale, we gonna see Laura play

There’s a bistro with a rainbow, and it ain’t so far

Listen sugar let’s raise a glass to the boulevard….

Marguerite-de-Rochechouart

Porte de Clignancourt, Les Marchés aux Puces today

Gonna steal me some art deco, ain’t got the money to pay

There’s a bistro with a rainbow, and it ain’t so far

Aww honey let’s raise a glass to the boulevard….

@ChrisPrice An excellent, rocker, Chris, and interesting vacation tales to boot! It's cool that you spend quality time with your daughter. I recall your previous track inspired by your earlier trip to France titled "Issue De Secours". 😎

Your new song, "Boulevard (Marguerite-de-Rochechouart)", features your excellent signature guitar, very good vocals, and catchy lyrics. The production and arrangement are great and the mix is crystal clear. There is nothing not to love about your song. I enjoyed listening! Well done as usual! 😀

    Cheers,

    Joseph

  • Lovely song, and made better knowing it's based on real life.

There's no weak spots, but I particularly enjoyed the solo(s).

  • Chico, eres la repera!!!

Heavy sound here hahah wow. Nice song, so descriptive and good!! It's great to travel like this, you take us by the hand on a great journey!!! It's been so many years since I visited Paris!!! Good guitars and great rhythm, it fits the story like a glove!! @ChrisPrice

    Salut mon ami!

  • I'm definitely giving 10/10 for getting all of those place-names into to the lyric and still making it sound good.

    Excellent

  • Thanks for some positive comments guys. I'm really happy with the song and my performance, but I feel the need for a remix. Nothing drastic, but it's sounding a bit harsh/shrill to my ears. Too much compression and less upper mid-range I think. I'll post an updated version when I'm done.😀

  • Okay, I won't bump this one up the list again after this, but I've just done a re-mix. For anyone who's interested in these things..I've used a different organ sound for the intro and chorus' which is less intrusive, I've rolled a little treble off the brass sounds in the solo, I've applied some light de-essing to the vocals and lowered the hi-hat on the kit. There's still a lot happening but I think this mix is a tad cleaner. I've replaced it on Soundcloud.

Time to move on to the next song now.😀

  • Great story song! Very fun to see the sights through your musical descriptions 😀

  • (Late to the party) Bam!… that’s the sound of you hitting it out of the park on this, Chris! Lyrics are impeccable, vocals great, instrumentation fantastic (nice guitar work!). Impressive rock and roll song. Very professional and well-thought. Great work!
  • Wow... quite a piece of work. Very soulful. I'm a sucker for harmony vocals and there they are, beautiful. Excellent and original song.

  • Such a fun song, Chris! I love you you say "de Rochechouart. There's a lot of enthusiastic energy and I can relate to. Maybe we were there at the same time! This is solid Chris Price and kudos for nailing everything! Cheers, HV

  • This is very polished songwriting and lyrics. I overall enjoyed it and it definitely sets a mood for the listener. Nice job!

  • Love it, Chris! Love your gravely voice; strong woman I can tell! And your most visual lyric takes me there tho' I've never been. Keep 'em comin'! Renee
