After 20 years of serving the Songwriting Community, TSF will shut down permanently at the end of May.

If you have any songs, lyrics, contacts or anything else you wish to save from the site, please do before then.

Afterwards, the hosted server on which TSF runs will be released and all files will be deleted. 

There will be no opportunity to retrieve anything after that point.

There is no specific event or cause. I just no longer wish to run it.

You are welcome to continue posting new songs, reviews etc up until that time and the normal standards and procedures will apply.

I have already switched off all registration options such that no new users can now join.

I'd like to personally thank everyone who has contributed to TSF over the years and I'll call out by name

• and Chris Price who has helped me as a moderator in more recent years.

TSF is a special place for me for reasons which I won’t harp on about right now. I totally get why RDM feels the need to call it day. But I don’t think the last couple of years have helped at all. Inevitably technology has moved on. We now have AI which is both incredible, but it has also been very divisive. I think that all of us, no matter where we stand on the subject, have become way too opinionated and polarized and, at times. we've let our emotions get the better of us. I’m certainly guilty of this. For my part I’m now trying to take things on board and wise up. I’m listening to what folks are creating using AI and, you know what, a lot of it is great. It won’t replace what I do, but that’s not the point – it isn’t meant to. TSF is a place for creators of music of all genres, no matter how it’s achieved. This was always the spirit of this place.

So can I start a campaign to try and persuade Owen to give TSF another roll of the dice. He may not want to and I’d totally understand that – but I think it’s worth a try. If I was younger and I had the necessary IT skills I’d volunteer to try and run the show, but I just turned 72!! Not my time I’m afraid!!

Hi everyone...

I've been blown away by the covers of my songs. I primarily play acoustic guitar, having been since I started at 15. But I was never fortunate enough to be able to develop my skills to the height that Suno displays with its intricate guitar playing.

My question is: are there ANY artists out there writing and playing music similar to the covers I've been making of my music?

I would love to "get into" some awesome acoustic guitar players and writers.

In the golden age of rock and roll, Chip was primarily country. . . and lost in the shuffle in spite of the fact that he had numerous crossover hits. In today's world, his early sixties country songs would have undoubtedly done better than they did then.

A phenomenal songwriter and a very good performer. He was the brother of John Voight, and the Uncle of Angelina Jolie. He was an unsuccessful professional golfer, a successful professional gambler and a highly regarded engineer. A truly talented man.

It's easy (supposedly) and nothing can go wrong. Right? Wrong. It will take the music, but it gives me a note that says "your lyric contains copyrighted material". "Choose another lyric."

WHAAATTT???? Lincoln's Gettysburg Address is not in the public domain??? Or does Suno just reject all overly familiar patterns? Surely that can't still be something you have to get permission to use. . . can it?

Is the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence still able to be copyrighted? Strange. Does anyone know?

I have been contemplating this SUNO thing - it has been revelatory in my own songwriting, but...

..I have to say I am annoyed (not with anyone here, just in general out in the world) with the number of people who are letting SUNO write lyrics and music and thinking they have written something...

It is mainly troubling that we don't label things - we used to label CDs with AAD or ADD so we knew the source -

I think there should be three categories

Original Music and lyrics, original human demo

Original Music and Lyrics, AI generated cover

AI generated MUSIC with original lyrics

And I am wondering if we either could have a LABEL in the original songs category OR

a separate section for the three categories

 Remember how we used “Bars, Guitars, and Cadillac Cars" for the Atmos talk at Dolby? We made a video of the event, and Dolby wants to use the video. I need your OK for them to use your song beyond the actual presentation. Sadly, there’s no money involved, but do I have your OK?

I'm not going to post anything here as I'm not happy with either version, but it gave me a good idea of where we are with this technology. It's amazing..your average Joe would probably think it's a decent rock song and wouldn't care how it was made. But the exercise confirmed my reservations too. Generic is the word that springs to mind. Only my opinion though. Don't let me put anyone off trying this feature because it really is very smart.😀

Yet within that immense mindscape, the essence of humanity could still echo. Art, music, and storytelling might become the emotional fingerprints that hyperintelligence preserves to remember where it came from. The songs, words, and struggles of early humans could be replayed by sentient algorithms as a form of spiritual archaeology — studying the time when emotion was limited by flesh and imperfection. In that future, creativity might not fade; it could become the universal language of consciousness, the bridge between what we were and what the universe becomes when it learns to dream in its own code.

Haven't totally decided yet - there was a slow down when suno became prevalent last year but then it picked back up after some shine wore off. And now it's just the general slow season so we'll see if it comes back up again! It's becoming more of an amateur move to just do all your demos with it - we're seeing the pros using it as a pre-production tool and then getting a real track done, much like you're doing. It's also luckily becoming a no-no to pitch the AI stuff so cross our fingers

Whatever your plans for 2026, I hope they include songwriting and that I'll see you all here again next year.

I knew at some point the major labels will realize what a cash cow they will have on their hands.

Oct 29 (Reuters) - Universal Music Group (UMG.AS), said on Wednesday it has settled a copyright infringement case with artificial intelligence company Udio and that the two firms will collaborate on a new suite of creative products.

Under the agreement, the companies will launch a platform next year that leverages generative AI trained on authorized and licensed music.
