If you receive a Private Message here on TSF, a system generated email will be sent to your email address notifying you that it is there.

However, replying to that email will not send it to the person who sent you the message. You need to use the Message functions within TSF to respond to them. Otherwise your reply will simply get lost.

I have now set the reply email address to "noreply" which should generate an undeliverable email error to you if you try to respond via email.

Please use the Message functions here on TSF.

Use of AI at The Songwriters Forum

The Songwriters Forum (TSF) was created as a place for songwriters to help other songwriters. The intention here was clearly about people helping other people, and this is the principle for what follows.

AI Generated Songs

AI Generated songs can be posted provided either the lyric or the music has been created by a TSF member. Please note in your post if either the lyric or the music was AI generated.

If a song is entirely AI generated, with the only input from a TSF member being the AI prompt, then it is not suitable to post on TSF. AI prompting is its own skill and activity, but isn't what this site is about.

TSF Membership

Only people can be TSF members. AI bots, or any other automated systems do not qualify for membership.

Nor should a TSF member allow their account to be used by an AI Bot.

Feedback and reviews

We want TSF member's reactions, suggestions and comments rather than an AI evaluation. Do not submit songs for AI review and post AI evaluations here on TSF. Members can do that themselves outside of TSF if they want to.

If you wish to write feedback and have AI review your text for clarity etc before posting, you are free to do so, though it isn't necessary. We'd rather hear your opinion in your own words.

Many people find giving feedback difficult, but it's what we all come here for.

Remember you are only offering an opinion.

Every member is asked to comment on 2 other songs for each one they post themselves.

Be respectful to other members at all times.

Comment on the song, not the songwriter. Personal attacks of any kind are unacceptable

Negative feedback is legitimate and helpful, but try to be as specific and constructive as you can, including a suggestion for how to improve the song if possible.

Try to be balanced. What did you like about the song? What did you dislike about it? What stood out the most?

Things to consider in your feedback:

What was your overall reaction to the song?

Is the title memorable?

Does the title summarize the song?

Is there a unique hook to the song?

How strong is the chorus (if there is one)

Is there a definite mood to the song? If so, what is it?

Is there an identifiable structure to the song in terms of verses, chorus, bridge, solo, outro etc

Is there a story in the lyric? If so does it progress during the song?

Is a rhyming scheme used? Is it consistent? Too simple or complex?

Is visual imagery used in the song? How effective is it?

Do the melody and the lyric match?

How strong is the melody? Did it hold your attention?

What instruments were used? Are there any that could be added / removed / swapped

Can you hear all the instruments and vocals clearly? How is the balance between them?

Songs encouraging violence, drugs, suicide, sexually explicit or containing offensive language are not suitable for TSF.

We aim to be family friendly.

Please post only 1 new song for review per day to avoid flooding the boards

Comment on 2 other songs for each one that you post yourself

You can use tags like "Country" "Pop" etc to indicate the type of music, but all songs are posted together.

Songs may be posted with a link to an external recording (eg. Youtube, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, etc) or lyrics only. If you post lyrics only, you can come back and add a link to a recording later when you have one.

If you are looking for a specific kind of feedback (eg the lyric, or the mix) then include a statement to that effect

If your song's music was generated via AI, please clearly indicate it as such, as not everyone wants to listen to AI generated music. If both the lyric and music are AI generated, do not post this on TSF, we want to help human songwriters rather than AIs.
