Never Gonna Hear My Song on the Radio

Good morning, SongLand!

This one is a true story; wishing I could write more story songs than I do. I hope you enjoy it and it brings a chuckle or two. Be nice to hear what AI could do with this, BUT....... she's picking up a little steam on SoundCloud all on her own! 😍

Anyway, any feedback is appreciated.

NEVER GONNA HEAR MY SONG ON THE RADIO

[Verse 1]

Ridin’ in the backseat of my father’s old Bonneville

On our way to the casino so he could get his jolly fill

Handed my mother my new CD, she popped it in the player

She was singin’ along but Daddy was that naysayer, he said:

[Refrain]

Are you makin’ any money with any of your songs?

Are you makin’ any money with any of your songs?

[Verse 2]

Felt that break in my heart as my tongue got twisted and tied

Hearing Dad say such a thing really caught me by surprise

At the time, I was full ‘a fire; full of hopes and dreams

But now that I’m older an’ Daddy’s gone hard as it seems:

[Chorus 1]

I’m never gonna hear my song on the radio

I’m never gonna hear my song on the radio

But I’m gonna write my song do or die anyway

[Verse 3]

In my mid-forties, decided to move to Music City USA

Don’t know what I was thinkin’ but I had to get away

I could barely play guitar and singing was never my thing

But I had notebooks full of lyrics for the luck they might bring, but

[Verse 4]

Nashville’s who-you-know and when you’re awkward like me

You don’t stand a chance in hell at becoming somebody

But I took to the stage, played for empty tables and chairs

I suppose Dad said what he said because he cared, he said:

[Refrain]

Are you makin’ any money with any of your songs?

Are you makin’ any money with any of your songs?

[Music]

[Verse 5]

Well, I got a couple of nibbles on a ditty here and there

As the years rolled by, I could see my songs weren’t goin’ anywhere

But to this day, if I don’t write it down, I feel lost inside

And sitting here in my writing chair, I still have my pride

[Chorus 1]

I’m never gonna hear my song on the radio

No, I’m never gonna hear my song on the radio

But I’m gonna write my song do or die anyway

[Chorus 2]

You’re never gonna hear my song on the radio

You’re never gonna hear my song on the radio

But I’m gonna write my song do or die anyway.

  • Anybody can be on radio , if ya want to pay for it . Im surprised there's not a AI radio station going on

Well any way good song Renee , a lot of songwriters can relate

  • @HummerWisdom - Renee, try to mix it up more. your choruses are becoming repetitive. and try a different strum pattern, or something. my crap my be controversial and not to your liking, but at least i try to change it up..

@bhengen I'm no musician which should be clear enough by now. I know this song is repetitive as I meant it to be as it goes along with the fact that I'm not a musician but a lyricist.

And I NEVER stated I didn't like your 'crap' tho' some of it is over my head and controversial; I THRIVE ON CONTROVERSIAL, makes the world go 'round! And we might even LEARN something of which I have from many of your GOTH songs!

As the song depicts, my true love is lyrics as I'm no guitar player or player of any kind and certainly no singer. I try my best.

Thank you for your feedback, but seeing as I got 9 likes, 3 positive comments and 4 shares overnight from people I don't even know, the song stands as she is at least for now (may tweak down the road) and you don't need to listen if you don't want to; I get it, I SUCK at the music part and my style is NOT for the masses; always has been that way, always will as far as I can tell.

Just comment on the lyric if you wish going forward. Appreciate that enough!

Looking forward to your next BRAVE move,

    Renee 💌

  • @ElvisNash thank you for your kind thoughts. Yes, I'm aware you can pay for play time on air. Just not something I'm willing nor can afford to do. And yes, this is a songwriter' song and there are more who can relate than not.

    Thanks again,

    Renee 💌

  • @HummerWisdom -my problem is that I need to comment on at least two. Which is problematic at the moment.
  • @bhengen 🤣🤣🤣

  • THRIVE ON CONTROVERSIAL lol , that's pretty stressful Renee

Well it's just a box in a car , Most FM channels are dead air waves. Ya gotta buy Sirus radio , at $28.00 a month

  • Kind of ironic, because they will never hear this song on the radio either, but at least we gain the benefit of it here!

I really like the melody in the verse.

I'm a bit with Bill on the chorus - not because it's bad, but because I like chorus and verse to sound separate and distinct, and these are a bit close for comfort. Maybe you could try going up in the vocals there?

Anyone who has tried to make it in music and encountered the harsh realities is going to sympathize with this, but it feels like you've written it more to get your own thoughts and feelings down on paper, and there's nothing wrong with that!

And like you, I think most of us are going to keep writing them anyway, cause there's a joy in the creativity no matter who else sees them.

    Renee,

View this forum as your own personal radio, with your own bunch of listeners.

This thread does contain a lot of useful advice, presented in different ways by different people.

It's up to you how you draw out that advice and whether you take it on board.

Put the coffee on, feet up, pat the dog and work your way through it. Separate the wheat from the chaff and benefit from it.

  • This isn't bad at all. It will never be on the radio😉 but there's a lot of people who like authentic folk music. Create an album, put in online, do some free marketing and see where it goes.
