AI - A musician's point of view.
Last night I cracked a light hearted joke about a musician I respect on the forum not selling out to AI. Perhaps understandable as I’m starting to feel a bit lonely here...AI generated music is now dominating the forum. But my comment wasn’t intended to wind anyone up, nor was it intended to spark another row about members’ ‘rights’ to post AI generated music on TSF or whatever. I'm sorry if anyone thought otherwise.
AI generated music is welcome on the main songwriters page. That’s the official line and, despite any reservations about AI that I may have, I’m not on a quest to change anything here. Owen has made his position very clear on the matter and I respect that. But I am entitled to my own thoughts.
If anyone wants to discuss AI with me way from the forum, please message me, I’m open to any sensible debate – and I can always agree to differ. But this has to be my last word on the subject on TSF. I want to enjoy my time here and I’d like everyone else to do the same.

Well I record everything live , I've gotten over the anger I had 7 months on AI songs , Just the way it is . With over 200,000 done by AI sites a month , it's not going away . You just have to try to beat AI songs. I think some session players are worried on losing their jobs over AI. Perhaps this is already happening , to a degree . Cutting live tracks is pricey and time consuming , so I see if someone pro AI and just a hobby and paying one cents per song , Why not .

Hey yeah Chris I'd like to converse with you on this, before I slip into the seductive abyss, but how do I message you?

@ChrisPrice well-stated. No debate from me; I'm with you! 😉

I'm always happy to discuss anything musical..You can send me a PM..(top right)..we can talk there - it isn't visible to the members - or I can let you have an email address if you prefer. Don't worry, I'm not serious about trying to put you off using AI. That would be very wrong of me, but I have my thoughts about AI generated music which extend beyond the forum. But my thoughts don't in any way represent forum policy.

Thanks Renee..I appreciate that😀

Will singer/songwriters disappear with the rise of AI? I don't think so. This argument has been made before, like when digital art was first introduced. Many feared it would replace traditional art, but that didn't happen. In the same way, AI might change the way we create and produce music, but it won’t replace the need for human expression.
It's also important to think about the market. When you're creating something to sell, you need to consider where it fits. In my case, my music is intended for the EDM market—meant to be streamed or mixed. Not everyone is a singer, and I've been told that my voice is unconventional, which is fine. I can play guitar, but I’m more experimental with it. For people like me who may not have traditional musical skills, AI provides an exciting outlet for creativity—an opportunity to explore without breaking the bank.
Will AI replace session musicians? Perhaps, but it’s worth noting that session musicians like those in the Wrecking Crew had their heyday until musicians wanted to take things into their own hands. Still, session musicians exist today. It's not about one being better than the other, just different approaches. If I create a song in a Nu-metal style, is it the same as Slipknot? Definitely not, and that’s not the goal. It’s about creating something that fits my vision and the sound I want to explore.

Damn I want to hear a band do Push Button live, hell I'd pay and I bet many would...if you can figure out how to have a band do it for real...damn you be a reach man. Will that ever happen?

Surprised to see this character back on the forum, should have been booted off by the moderators.
This whatever you want to call him sent me a PM asking me to explain how Ai works, this I duly did in all faith.
He thanked me for my assistance and I left it at that.
It wasn't long after that he made his position clear on the topic of Ai. That was fine too, everyone is entitled to their opinion. What wasn't acceptable to me and I'm sure to any other decent person was to be accused of duplicity and fraud and be labelled as a liar. He essentially left little doubt that he thought my lyrics were generated by Ai, something I have never done or ever will. Do not be duped by his fake pleasantries, he is a deplorable piece of ****, who should be barred from this site immediately. Do not be fooled, he is no gentleman at all.

@StoneFlowers - You can take the output from the AI song and put it into a DAW and reverse engineer it. not stealing if it's your own song.. Any talented musician should be able to site hear and break down the recording. I had a friend in high school that can listen to a piece of music, then figure out how to play it on each instrument. He didn't need the sheet music.. he could figure which key the piece was in.. it didn't matter if it was a rock song or classical piece.

Because I can use AI as a tool , it's new technology. I can test the waters on something I wanna record , or not live in Nashville . Run the machines , ok that one works , ok this one don't . I can't run to the studio 5 days a week , So I can test songs , on what works or don't . Country music is 1 4 and the five , Were not Prince lol
No big deal

Hey Elvis, help me out with this. You’re a seasoned pro. I’m an amateur singer song writer, just me and a guitar, got no interest in fame or fortune, just want to create something different, have some fun doing it. I listen to the artificial engines create beautiful songs and I think, WTF? Maybe I should just succumb and let AI create it. The voice in my head keeps telling me “don’t do it”, it’s too seductively easy, it’ll take out your creative drive and leave you without the satisfaction of doing it on your own.”
I dunno, can you give me some song writer wisdom on this?

I do it on my own , Record everything live in Nashville . But I can't ignore AI as a tool. Thats all it is to me. Say your melody sucks you're working on . Well you spin that song 20 times thru robots , Well that's interesting what I'm getting thru robots . Its the same thing to listening to hits today , You kinda borrow on what their doing and go down that road musically and structurally , Say hits use only a 2 line bridge , Well you copy that concept , Same with robots . Assumptions on stealing from hit songs or robots is ego based . It doesn't have to be .
