Her Malevolence (new demo)

This is a song that I wrote last spring and crafted an early demo for. Recently, I worked much more on it, changed it a bit, recorded fresh vocals, and now it's nearly ready as a final demo version for my Soundcloud channel, along with a music video for my YouTube channel. For now, I'm testing out the EQ on various devices before having a video created for it. All feedback welcome, especially about any perceived EQ issues! 😎

The song is about an beautiful enchantress who punishes a wicked woman by making her innate fear of monsters under her bed come to life in her mind to destroy her. It's a song that supports my forthcoming fictional horror novel.

Cheers,

Joseph

song from the forthcoming horror novel "Omega's Dark: The Transference"

--Verse 1
You look but you don't see
You listen but don't hear
Your fingers trace love's heart across thin air
That you don't feel

--Verse 2
You count the stars in the sky
But you don't know their number
The waves crash over your head
But you don't know how far you're under

Pre-chorus 1
Dark of night strikes a fear
in your life and your heart
You're so close to the end
Her magic enters in

--Chorus
Under your bed at night
Dark demons lurk there out of sight
Spirits and shadows come alive
Her malevolence claims your mind
The hush grows loud and clear
Your heart beats fast, your fate is here
Now when your legs hang over the side
She will drag you into the fire

--Release
Tonight, her malevolence takes your life

--Verse 3
It's a fight you can't win
You're frozen in fear
Your body feels the scales of serpent skin
Your end is here

--Pre-chorus 2
And the night leaves you cold
As her bite leaves a mark
You know you're at the end
Her magic's pain and sin

(repeat chorus; then to bridge)

--Bridge
She's one part Heaven, two parts Hell
A blend of terror mixed so well
Your journey's bound for pain
You'll burn tonight
All my love for her saved my life
Now Hedra will make you burn tonight

(repeat chorus through fade out)

Hey man , has a Bowie persuasive to me , Cool song man , I envy doing on your own , I always need help with producing songs

Grooves nicely man !!!, it really ramps up

  • @icystorm - cool this sounds a lot like roxy music vibe. this is. an excellent song to dance to. takes me back to the dance clubs in the 80's

  • NIce clear mix, not hearing any EQ issues - but don't rely on my old ears!

I did find the dynamic panning on the bass a bit distracting from the vocal though. It's a nice effect, suitably creepy, but maybe use it at the start and then only sparingly whilst you are singing?

@ElvisNash -- Thanks, man! I appreciate the kind words. I envy the excellent production of your songs. Eventually, I want to use studio producers and musicians to improve the quality of my best songs.

@bhengen -- Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. My biggest musical influence is Barry Gibb in the 80s and 90s (post-disco and well after 'Fever').

@RainyDayMan -- You wrote: "I did find the dynamic panning on the bass a bit distracting from the vocal though."

That's exactly the kind of response I was hoping for, Owen. I was concerned that the growling-bass effect was too prominent after the intro, although I did dial it way back leading into V1. I will kill it after the intro and add a second bass line that blends better with the vox. Thanks for confirming that! 😀

    Cheers,

    Joseph

  • Yeah, great production. I can certainly hear the Barry Gibb influence. Personally I'd like to hear some more bass now - not too much but could do with a bit more low-end imo. Liking the lyrics.

    A great track Joseph.😀

@ChrisPrice -- Many thanks for listening and your kind words, Chris! I fully agree about the bass/low-end. I significantly reduced the growling-bass after the intro (you probably didn't hear that version, but the effect was distracting). I'll definitely add a new traditional bass line before sending it off for a video this week.

I look forward to hearing a new track from you soon -- it's been a while! 😀

    Cheers,

    Joseph

I don't think you need producers and studio guys . You do a good job on your own . But if you ever get a studio , you'll know your way around with producers. Sometimes you have to fire a few , that's no fun
