One God

Good morning, Songland! Was going to call this one "If There's Just One God", but @ElvisNash reminded me that shorter titles work best (in most cases ), so I chopped it off. Thank you, Elvis! 😍
This song is not meant to offend anyone, of any religion, of any God; just my thoughts on Christianity and how confused it's become. Any thoughts are welcome.
Thank you for listening ===> https://soundcloud.com/reneelachapelle/one-god
ONE GOD
[Chorus]
If there’s just one God
How come there’s so many denominations?
If there’s just one God
How come there’s so many interpretations?
If there’s just one God
[Verse 1]
And the Catholics hate on the Protestants
And the Protestants hate on the Catholics
And the Mormons seem to hate everybody
And just about every church is glad to take your money
[Verse 2]
And the Baptists say Jesus is yet to come
And the Preterists say Jesus already came
Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t Christians be one in the same?
Oooh-oooh-oooh
[Chorus]
If there’s just one God
How come there’s so many denominations?
If there’s just one God
How come there’s so many interpretations?
If there’s just one God
[Verse 3]
It’s with good reason I don’t go to church
I’m a Believer but I just can’t go to church
‘Cuz the Pope claimin’ to be God on earth, it ain’t okay
And where do they get off changin’ God’s Sabbath to Sunday?
[Verse 2 Repeats]
And the Baptists say Jesus is yet to come
And the Preterists says Jesus already came
Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t Christians be one in the same?
Oooh-oooh-oooh
Oooh-oooh-oooh
Oooh-oooh-oooh
Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t Christians be one in the same?
[Chorus]
If there’s just one God
How come there’s so many denominations?
If there’s just one God
How come there’s so many interpretations?
If there’s just one God, oooh..

Well somebody comes along , were not buying that , so they start a new relgion , how it works I guess

@ElvisNash I pretty much know the reason but left it open for interpretation. These controversial songs, I think it's the best way to go sometimes.

@HummerWisdom - great lyrics. A question that’s been discussed for millennia1
-
And the Catholics hate on the Protestants
And the Protestants hate on the Catholics
And the Mormons seem to hate everybody
My take on this . . .
Arrogant.
Ignorant.
Offensive.
Ironic: YOU are the one "hating on" folks. BTW, half my family (on my wife's side) is Mormon, and I know many, many devout Mormons. They don't hate anyone. How dare you.

@HummerWisdom You seem to have hit a nerve, Renee. Oh well.... Maybe "disagree with" would come across better than " hate on" Idk. Either way It's good song. Love the lyrics. your vocals along with the chord progression deliver them well.

@HummerWisdom , @cove, @HoboSage , this is purely from her point of view. Maybe there were bad experiences with other religions. She shouldn’t have to explain nor justify her words. She also did state her intent was not to offend.2
-
@HoboSage mean no disrespect. Just write it as I see it. Perhaps, Cove is right "disagree with" vs. "hate" tho' I do see the hatred among various sects of the cult Christianity has become.

@HummerWisdom -renee I wouldn’t change the words at all, as they are true to what you believe. Which is the point of art1

@bhengen I was just making a suggestion, which I'm pretty sure is part of what this forum is about. Renee doesn't have to explain or justify anything to me and she certainly didn't hit a nerve with me. I walked away from organized religion a long time ago and that monster they voted into The White House cemented the fact that I'll never go back.

Don't hit a nerve with me , They all think their religion is better than the other one , kinda how it works . I'd say it kinda like satire . Hobo sage must of forgot all the wars over religion , including Mormons back in the day . its kinda like politics always drama going on
The Mormon Wars were a series of armed conflicts between Mormon settlers and the US government in the 1830s, 1840s, and 1850s. The wars were caused by tensions between Mormons and Protestant Americans over governance and autonomy. Maybe Hobo Sage should brush up on history My God is better than your GOD

Once you lose the right to say what you believe, no religion will save you.

This isn't a song about the history of religion or even a song critical of religion, per se. This is a 2025 song that insults and offends whole swaths of people as being hateful just because they are of a particular religious faith. If that's the kind of song folks here on this "family friendly" site welcome in the name of "art," that's legitimate. But so is my right to my criticism of it despite what the clique here might think. So, by all means, post your broad-brush rants against Jews, Muslims, gays, minorities, or whomever else you have the arrogance to pigeon hole and judge, and the ignorance to condemn. But please do not expect me to have much good to say about such "art."

@HoboSage - you are completely missing the point of the song. this is her PERCEPTION not BELIEF. .those are two independent thoughts.. she is not saying she is condones such action. but this is how she views the world.. i grew up with a catholic mother and my best friend was a born-again christian. i've also served, worked and have been friends with those of both the Jewish and Muslim beliefs, and my niece's family are mormons so from my POINT OF VIEW, she is not wrong. Does that make me a racist, bigot, anti LGBQT or anti-religion, no. because I have no issues with religion in general, and if that's your belief, then have at it. You're taking this song, like my song you that you said was grammatically incorrect too literal. I didn't correct you on my song, because you were WRONG, and missed the point. you tried to correct grammar on a song i INTENTIONALLY worded it because i was going more for cadence than grammar. Also, it was an ABSTRACT song mainly. geared towards the prog rock and experimental rock genres, it WAS NOT meant to be taking literally. I've already babbled enough, I'm not going to expend any more energy explaining my comment about it being art, as you missed that point as well. Thank you for not commenting on m songs, my life is irritating enough as it is.

@HoboSage I agree whole-hearted; it IS your right to criticize a controversial piece exercising your right to free speech. And believe it or not, I appreciate it. Like a conversation, two parties don't get anywhere without both sides of view. I just wish you wouldn't have gone the name-calling route.
As I have the right via poetic-license to say how I feel; how I perceive things to be, I never expect everybody to like or agree with any of my songs.
This song is merely asking the question: If there's one God, how come, why, blah, blah, blah? As stated earlier in this thread, based upon your feedback, I may consider using "disagree with" versus "hate on" as Cove suggested.
So far as the Mormon line, Elvis was correct, historically speaking. I was careful to say, "And the Mormons SEEM to hate everybody" that is not to say that ALL Mormons hate everybody. Obviously, I'll need to work on that line as well. Maybe, even take the Mormons out of it as I purposely left the Jews out of it. I have my reasons.
I'm here to learn as much as share my material and I appreciate your input; truly I do.
Anyway, I hope we can agree to disagree and still be friends as I love much of your material,
Renee
PS: For a show of goodwill, what are your thoughts on the following?
And the Catholics frown upon the Protestants
And the Protestants frown upon the Catholics
And the “chosen” everybody wants to be
And just about every church is glad to take your money
PPS: I'm asking forgiveness from the Father Almighty as I know that He despises the creation of divide among His people. I also, hope that you @HoboSage can find forgiveness in your heart as well.

@ElvisNash too funny, how you ended your discussion above with: "My God is Better Than Your God". I have been trying to write that exact hook for some time now. I haven't been able to pull it off as yet, but I believe it's a great hook with so many gods out there! What originally gave me the idea was Oscar Meier's old commercial: "My dog's better than your dog, my dog's better than yours...." 🙃
And now, I begin to wonder if all the gods out there should even come into play as within Christianity, there seems to be so many Gods.....hmmm......
Thank you for bringing that to my attention,
Renee

@HummerWisdom I am not personally offended by the song, and I have not called anyone any names. My criticism is of the song- not you personally. From my perspective, the song comes across as arrogant, ignorant, offensive, and ironic - as I said. You don't owe me an apology.
@bhengen Don't worry about me saying something to threaten your delusion that throwing words at an AI program makes you a songwriter.

I am also one of those delusional souls who uses Ai. Care to join us with your delusion that anybody cares what you think.

@HoboSage Okay, my mistake, I mistook those words you used as name calling. I'm glad we can agree to disagree tho' I just re-sang the song with the new verse; the one I asked your opinion on. I like it enough and I even like it better as it sings much better, so there's that! And fortunately, with SoundCloud's new edit feature, re-uploading the same song, I won't lose prior feedback! All is well in Heaven today!
Thank you!
Renee

Time to step back and draw breath everyone. This thread is borderline about to be closed, and that shouldn't be necessary.

@RainyDayMan Thank you, Owen for keeping the thread open. I believe any confusion has been resolved.
Respectfully,
Renee
