What's the worst song you've heard?

I'm going to name "Splish Splash" by Bobby Darin. It may not be the very worst, but it always struck me as such a nothing song, yet it became a hit.

Often we compare ourselves to the very best songs ever written, but seldom compare ourselves with the other end of the scale. And yet whatever your worst song is, you have heard of it. It was played on the radio, recorded, or played live by someone. So maybe there is some hope for us all!

So what has offended your ears the most? 😉

@RainyDayMan asked: So what has offended your ears the most?

That's a hard one, Owen! Probably the worst songs ever to my ears were uploaded by amateurs and hobbyists, but if we limit the possibilities to commercially-released songs, it's still a very hard question to answer. Probably the worst among commercially-released songs are in genres and/or eras I do not like, so I've probably never actually heard the one I probably would dislike the most. However, that's beyond the scope of your question. As I'm sure many would agree, there are some very bad and annoying songs out there! 🤣😂 Identifying the worst one may be nearly impossible. I'll think on it. 😁

    Cheers,

    Joseph

  • @RainbowKeeper OMG  schnappy the crocodile! That made me laugh out loud. This thread has been worth it just for that! The others are pretty bad, but Schnappy got me!

@sidshovel Yes, unfortunately I remember that one too!

  • @sidshovel yours even made it to my language! I don’t like it that much but to me it’s ok. I can take this sh*it! Lmao!

@RainyDayMan This will undoubtedly become an ongoing list as more and more horrible songs come to mind. LOL! For now (unfortunately) I'm thinking of these annoying tunes from the 70s and 80s.

    Rhinestone Cowboy -- Glen Campbell

    Disco Duck -- Rick Dees

Pac-man Fever -- Buckner and Garcia

    Precious and Few -- Climax

    Convoy -- CW McCall

    Movin' On -- Merle Haggard

There are hundreds more, but these are really annoying. 😂🤣

  • I thought of this one today, so I'll add it to the list: Star Trekking Across the Universe

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi3Xt3Yjk14

  • I'm continuing to think of annoying songs, and these come to mind as cringe-worthy:

    Kokomo -- Beach Boys

Ice Ice Baby -- Vanilla Ice

Achy Breaky Heart -- Billy Ray Cyrus

Boot Scootin' Boogie -- Brooks & Dunn

Adding to my ongoing list of annoying songs:

    Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins

    La Bamba - Los Lobos

Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung

I think I broke a radio once while trying to quickly turn off 'Danger Zone'. LOL!!!

    Now that's a reaction!!

It's really hard to nail down the worst one of all time. I may throw in the towel here, because I don't enjoy remembering horrible songs. 🤣😂 Instead, there are plenty of great ones to remember and enjoy. 😀

  • Some of my early songs!!😳

I had a look on the web and found one horror that I'd forgotten about..'Split Level Head” by Napoleon XIV'

Same guy who did 'They're coming to take me away'

It sounds like a prototype to quite a lot of modern stuff!!

  • Oh that is bad! I hadn't heard that one before and won't again.

@ChrisPrice Good one, Chris! Ridiculous, low-quality "songs" like that once appeared on a US radio program in the 1970s called "Dr. Demento". Each Sunday, after Casey Kasem's very popular three-hour radio program, American Top 40 (based on the Billboard Hot 100), the Dr. Demento show was broadcast. I believe he usually had a top 10 of terrible songs similar to one you shared. I only listened to a couple of those shows for obvious reasons. 😂🤣

  • The worst song I've ever heard is probably one of my own...think a song is great until it isn't.

  • Are we talking songs that, from a somewriting or melodic perspective, are of poor or insipid quality?

    If so:

"Up Up and Away" by The Fifth Dimension is about as off-puttingly 'white-bread' and happy-clappy as you can get. I will not sit through it if I can avoid it.

"Goofus" by The Carpenters amply illustrates why the protagonist of the song is a lousy musician. Grating key changes and helium vocals all make you reach for the "off" button.

"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell has, to my ear, one of the worst melody lines in pop, a meandering, vaguely chant-like thing punctuated by that bloody metallic "Boink-Boink" from the synth.

    Just a sampling...

    C.

  • Worst song? Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.

  • Let Banksy paint my shed by me

I've never been a big fan of McCartney's "Uncle Albert-Admiral Halsey". That song was beneath him. But, hey, we all need to have a bit of fun.

  • Oh I haven't heard that one in ages! Perhaps there's good reason!!

  • „Umbrella“ ….oh gesh I hate that one too. Still don’t understand the hype they made around it.
  • @RainbowKeeper You might be in the minority on that one! Not my favorite, but I can't say I hate it.

  • I'm sure your breaking her heart , Her net worth is a billion bucks . Hype ? about 3 million to promote it
