The AI
Here's a wee spoof about AI generated music (no offense intended for anyone who uses AI):
THE AI
Music & lyrics written and performed by Chris Price ©2024
I got an email from the record company A&R man
You gotta write a hit record by next week you understand
I’m thinking that this dude is in for a shock
cos this rock n roller is sufferin’ from writers block
but then I write few prompts n feed it into…
The AI
Got my head in my hands thinkin’ what just happened to me
Five seconds later it’s spittin’ out an mp3
The A&R man never heard rock n roll like that
He said I want the video & man ya gotta get on track
So I write a few prompts n feed it into…
Somewhere down the line I think I sold my soul
Shoulda got outa here before I got so old
Just one more chance another roll of the dice
Shoulda known that lightning never strike twice
100 million records sold in one weekend alone
but then we got a subpoena from a guy from the Rolling Stones
He said that you stole every lick from the band n yer caught in the act
Gonna bust yer ass n leave ya penniless and that’s a fact
So I write a few prompts n feed it into…

Very topical! And sounding nothing like AI.
Did you consider repeating "The AI"?
Put a smile on my dial. 😁

Thoroughly enjoyed this little ditty and your lyrics have a light tone but carries depth underneath. Nicely done.0

Hey Chris I posed this question to Sidshovel, I'd appreciate any feed back you might have as well:
Hey Sid thanks for the feed back...some questions for you, or anyone else that might provide feedback. I'm fairly new and probably a bit naive about the song writing game. How does one tell the difference between and song written and performed by AI and one strictly by humans? How many songs posted on this site would you say are AI derived or enhanced? Does it make any difference as far what this forum is trying to accomplish?

Not trying to handball this but I know Chris is best equipped to answer you. He is the musician with an excellent ear.
As to the last two questions: about two months ago, I was the only one posting songs using Ai, now there are a lot more, about 40% of total I guess. The last question is more contentious, it depends on who you ask. Some members have strong opinions about Ai in general and specifically on its impact on professional musicians. The official line is contained in the recently updated Forum's rules and regulations with respect to posting Ai songs or part of.
RDM wrote them and I think they are very fair and insightful with the necessary rules and regulations for fair play.
Sid
P.S. Ai lyrics read and sound like a Hallmark Valentines card. They contain no human nuances at all!

Interesting stuff. As Sid says, the official forum rules about AI generated music have recently been clearly set out by RDM. Sid's also right about the increase in AI generated music on the forum.
We're obviously relying on folks being honest when they post something that's AI generated. I think it's fair that we know.
How to tell the difference between AI and 'real' music? Well, I have to admit it's getting harder. At this point in time I think it's often the vocals that give it away more than anything. There's something kinda generic about the way much of it sounds which is hard to describe. The musical arrangements are governed by what's been used to train AI and, again, it can all sound a bit familiar somehow. It's clever stuff though. I won't pretend that I like it, but it's happening regardless of what people like me might think, so I'm trying to keep my feelings at bay and review contributions as I hear them, or maybe just look at the lyrics.
AI isn't just used to create the music. There are some great AI tools now which can be used to enhance production. I've dabbled a bit but prefer to stick with what I know.
So as not to clog up this page further, I might start another thread over in General Discussions about the merits and/or otherwise of AI generated music. It's a hot topic just now.

The one time I was expecting AI and didn't get it ;p.
That blues / rock n' roll riff will never get old no matter how times it's used, so catchy and timeless. Was the abrupt ending intentional? Thought we might get a chorus riding off into the sunset there. Don't have too much else to say except it's good old fashioned rock and roll about a timely topic. I had no idea AI music was so pervasive until I came back to this site. It's something we're all adjusting to, and in the meantime, I'm sure there will be plenty of songs written about it, including, of course, this one.

@ChrisPrice LOL! A very astute and amusing novelty song with a solid rock beat, Chris. Excellent lead guitar work as usual, very good vocals, and fun lyrics! I enjoyed listening. Nice job! 😂🤣
Cheers,
Joseph

Nicely done ! @ChrisPrice . . . AI satire at it's finest (so far, anyways) I like your sense of fun here, especially the last part.
"Everybody wants to sue somebody" . . . now there's another good song theme ?
I think you have a great point about the vocals "giving it away" to being AI based, I've noticed that too . . . we've all been listening to incredible vocalists for so many decades, and how the music producers know how to get more out of the vocals as the song progresses, really stretch it to fit the theme and lyrics, unpredictable inflections I think.

Thanks everyone for some nice comments. My song was intended as a spoof so I didn't spend too much time working on it. Saying that, it turned out rather better than I expected so I'm happy. If I'm allowed to like one of my own songs then, yeah, I'm into this one!!
In the light of recent conversations, I stress that the song wasn't meant as a dig at anyone who uses AI. It was a bit of fun and I hope it raised a smile.😀
