[intro]

[verse 1]

She's seen it all before, as a child an' grandma too,

the injustice and the fightin' all because you're you.

Everythin's the same, except the colour of your skin.

Some doors are open to you, others wont let you in.

[verse 2]

The same streets have seen the blood of generations,

spilled for the same freedoms, given to other nations.

The words used are the same, for the promises sworn.

Given to the forgotten, before your Daddy was born.

[chorus]

I see hard times in her eyes,

injustice she's endured.

Wears the scars of equality,

what's left of hopes rewards.

[verse 3]

How long will it be, till our rights are no longer wrong?

When can our children not need to learn these songs.

To look into a mirror, an' not see an outcast lookin' back.

See a child of god, instead of a face that's coloured black.

[chorus]

I see hard times in her eyes,

injustice she's endured.

Wears the scars of equality,

what's left of hopes rewards.

[verse 4]

Her withered eyes gaze down at the children on the lawn,

Their innocence protects them from the pain about to dawn.

They'll take their stand in the ranks, of heroes gone before,

To prise open one more inch of another forbidden door.

[chorus]

I see hard times in her eyes,

injustice she's endured.

Wears the scars of equality,

what's left of hopes rewards.

[bridge]

Another generation passes on without the dream fulfilled,

wasted lives fighting ghosts from a colonial past.

The baton changes hands but nothing's reconciled,

How many more will waste their years, cryin' forgotten tears.

[chorus]

I see hard times in her eyes,

injustice she's endured.

Wears the scars of equality,

what's left of hopes rewards.

[outro]

Promises are made, but no one pays them any mind.

they're fodder for the masses, more of the same kind.

Still the old lady laments and cries,

through the hard times in her eyes.

  • ok, tough subject to make a song about!

at 5 mins its too long, most songs are no more than 3.30 because ppl do not have the attention spans to stick with it these days, blame tiktok.

i like how it sounds but i think you could trim the words but keep the meaning,:

    [verse 1]

She's seen it as a child an' grandma too,

all the injustice because you're you.

Everythin's the same, except your skin.

Some doors are open, others wont let you in.

    [verse 2]

The streets have seen the blood of generations,

spilled for the freedoms, given to other nations.

The words are the same, the promises sworn.

Given to the forgotten, before your Daddy was born.

its only a little trimmed but if you do it with the other verses you will cut about 30 seconds maybe, and the chorus doesnt really punch home a message, id use the chorus to say how long must it be this way kinda thing

it song writing the trick is using the fewest words to say the most, the more wordy it is the harder it is for the listener to engage and remember it, you want an ear worm not a documentary, lol

over all though it sounded good but with some tweaks it could be a really good one

  • I like this, but I'm not sure the chorus is strong enough. I'm wondering if there is a way to make more use of the "eyes" from "hard times in her eyes"? Something a bit more personal and less abstract?

Also, I feel like the scars should be from injustice rather than equality. Which would necessitate swapping that from where it currently is. Maybe suffering there instead?

    As always, just thoughts!

  • But good thoughts which are appreciated!

  • Interesting Guardian article on how Meta is using Facebook posts to train Ai models.

  • Yes, this is a tough topic to breech in any for of literature yet you are pulling it off well. I do agree that the chorus feels a little less moving or powerful as the rest of the lyrics and this you could go more 'Langston Hughes' Harlem - A Dream Differed' vibe for the chorus but that's a poets perspective. Wonderfully written man.

AI is here to stay and so I warn those using it to refrain from allowing it to become a crutch. If we abdicate our creativity and logical thought to an outside force, we risk stagnation of new ideas and innovations. My 2 cents/pence
