Reread "Grapes of Wrath."

The Dust Bowl was the result of a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s.

[intro, *howling wind*]

[Piano solo intro 16 bars]

[verse 1]

Sat in the lamplight and drank away my thoughts,

took a trip to better times, before the land we bought.

Memories danced inside my mind, life's lost tapestry,

faded threads of images, of a happy wife and me.

[verse 2]

Clouds sprang up in the distance, over the MidWest,

black shrouds covered it all, laid the ground to rest.

We all lived in a grave, that God was fillin' in, as if,

every living creature, had committed a mortal sin.

[Instrumental piano 8 bars]

[chorus]

They gave us land, and told us just to plough,

never cared if most of us, had no idea how!

Killed the prairie grasses, left the topsoil bare,

the wind carried away our lives, off into the air.

[verse 3]

We suffered the worst that, life could throw at us,

years of being, beaten, battered, and crushed.

We fought to stay together, in famine but never feast,

Many gave up and took, their family home back East.

[Instrumental piano 8 bars]

[chorus]

They gave us land, and told us just to plough,

never cared if most of us, had no idea how!

Killed the prairie grasses, left the topsoil bare,

the wind carried away our lives, off into the air.

[bridge]

Hunger and drought took away the strength,

till there was nothing left of her.

We buried the ashes, in the dry barren ground,

for God to only come and take her, off into the air.

[chorus]

They gave us land, and told us just to plough,

never cared if most of us, had no idea how!

Killed the prairie grasses, left the topsoil bare,

the wind carried away our lives, off into the air.

[outro]

[Instrumental piano 16 bars]

  • That's a good one. Very vivid.

I'll leave you a couple of thoughts, but it's already very good as is.

the wind blew away our lives, dust into the air.
