When Guns Are Silent

Hi Folks ! . . . something a bit different for me . . . I've always been fascinated by the sound of a rock band with a symphony orchestra behind them (Procol Harem, Moody Blues) , so I tried to do that here. By the time I mixed it, perhaps more rock band than symphony . . . still trying to get the mix right, but let me know what you think . . .

  • I like rock with a symphony orchestra too, and I like this! It's a strong song and a good feel to it. Chorus is particularly good.

Only thing for me, is the bass notes feel a bit washed out - but I have old ears, so check for yourself!!

    Nice music!

  • Hi Owen . . . thanks for having a listen . . . yes, I get what you're saying about the bass, the bass kind of drives the whole thing, so tricky mix to not make the whole piece sound too boomy . . . I used a picked bass with no compression to get as much bass definition as possible.

I like the interesting beats fusion!! This style feels so well with the story and arrangement. Good delivery of voices and good general sound!! It has a fresh taste! Love the pizzicatos

  • Anyone who mentions Procol Harum is going to get a thumbs up from me. I don't actually hear any similarities with that band, but this is a great track and I do like the way you've used the orchestration. It's not overdone which makes it all the more effective. I think the mix is really good too. Great song😀

  • Mora . . . thanks for stopping by, and loving the pizzicatos !

  • Thanks Chris for the comments . . . my fav Procol Harum song was of course "Conquistador" with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, that was the first time I heard this rock orchestra thing, and the mere idea of it stuck in my head forever . . . it's a long time ago, but has an afterlife on the internet . . .

Wow, man. This is really good. You have a really coalesced kind of sound. Tight and focused. I totally reminds me of Thomas Dolby for some reason. You have a great voice and a full package with the performance and mix. Cheers!
  • Just as i’ve come to expect from you. Well produced song with exceptional vocals!

For a home studio ( If that's what's used ) This could do well on promotion, to the right audience .

  • @robcrozier . . . hey thanks so much for bringing this one out from the basement (originally posted a year ago), glad you found it and had a listen !

  • @carroll . . . much appreciated, hope to work on something new with you very soon !

    • Certainly trying to evaluate where to target a audience in the right format is the ongoing life -time achievement. like my old hobby of catching catfish , I found buying live minnows for them to die in a hour was a waste of my time . A guy I work with had me buy this " Bandcamp Mastery, by FVMusicBlog
    • Music Promotion Warrior Course, by Kris - FVMusicBlog.
    • So in turn he sets it all up for me and see's if it works and uses it for selling his songs.
    • Of course all these gurus say limited offer , Gotta love capitalism
    • Its probably a scam like New homing fees when you adopt a mutt , Did this dog live in the Hilton ?

So basically guns aren't silent in the music business world ,And Youtube stars remind me of a bad case of the Kardashians.
