Love and Hate

Love and Hate:
I hate that I love you
I hate that I try
I hate that you love me
I hate when you cry
I hate that I know you
I miss the surprise
You tell yourself fables
I tell myself lies
I think that I hate you
Do I just hate myself
I know I can hate two
I think that I hate you
You think I’m distasteful
At least I never lie
You hate when I’m playful
Can’t say I don’t try
You know that I know you
You say that you’re trying
I know you’re unable
To say that you’re lying
I think that you hate me
Maybe I just hate myself
I know you can hate, too
I think that you hate you
I hate that you love me
I hate when you’re right
I hate that your fables
Foretold this demise
I love when you hate me
You hate when you love
You love to hate me
Your hate is your love
I think that I hate you
I only blame myself
I hate that you love me
I hate love itself
I think that I hate you
I say that I hate myself
I think that I love you
I hate that I love myself
You think that you love me
You’re mad that I love myself
Cant you see how things seem
Through the eyes of someone else
You know I don’t hate you
But you still hate yourself
No one can really love YOU
Until you love yourself
I hate that I love you
I hate that I try
I hate that you love me
I hate when you cry
I hate that I know you
I miss the surprise
You tell yourself fables
I tell myself lies
I think that I hate you
Do I just hate myself
I know I can hate two
I think that I hate you
You think I’m distasteful
At least I never lie
You hate when I’m playful
Can’t say I don’t try
You know that I know you
You say that you’re trying
I know you’re unable
To say that you’re lying
I think that you hate me
Maybe I just hate myself
I know you can hate, too
I think that you hate you
I hate that you love me
I hate when you’re right
I hate that your fables
Foretold this demise
I love when you hate me
You hate when you love
You love to hate me
Your hate is your love
I think that I hate you
I only blame myself
I hate that you love me
I hate love itself
I think that I hate you
I say that I hate myself
I think that I love you
I hate that I love myself

Has almost a punk feel to it to me.
It's repetitious, almost exclusively Love and Hate lines, but that feels quite deliberate - that's the song.
Quite a tangled ball of emotions, with the odd poignant line like "I hate when you cry"

Yes, RDM has nailed this. I too can imagine this as a fast and furious, four to the floor punk rocker. I'm not sure that I can really say too much about the words except that they would indeed work this way. Did you have any musical style in mind when you wrote this?

I hear it as hard(ish) punk rock. Closest comparison I can come up with is Seether, like something that could have been on their album Isolate and Medicate. Tangled emotions intentionally for sure, with some dashes of inherently subjective realism.
Might be more poem than song right now.
And thank you both for your thoughts/feedback.0 -
Well, if your aim was hardish punk rock, then kudos, cause that's clearly coming through!
