Handful of Days

Posted this one on the other forum in 2022. It's the one year anniversary of my Mom's passing and it's a song that I know she loved and got to hear a few months before she died. She came from an area and time where this is the kind of music she heard and loved in her younger days so I figured I'd put it up to honor her today. I was inspired to write it as her fight with cancer became more intense and I was searching for the words to process the passing of time and eventually the life of a loved one. I am so glad she did get to hear it. She told me that my Grandpa used to sit in the backyard of their rural home and strum and sing this very type of music for hours. "Hillbilly Gospel" she called it

  • This song a great tribute to your Mom. What makes it special is that it's up-lifting. Great lyrics. I rather enjoy this kind of music - I can't really play this style but you clearly can. Great guitar playing. Well done Pete.😀

It's awesome that you remembered your mom in this way, Pete, and it's great that she was able to hear it and enjoy the song before she passed. Regarding the song itself, I like it a lot. It's up to your usual high standards with good vocals and arrangement, excellent guitar work, and very clear production. The lyrics are well crafted and apropos. I'm sure your mom is still enjoying your gift of song. Nice work! 😀

    Cheers,

    Joseph

  • It's a lovely tribute! And a solid song in its own right.

  • This is a wonderful song. It feels like one of those songs pulled from the ether like it always existed.

I would bump the backing music up in the mix and take a little echo off the vocal - its a nice vocal for the song and doesn't need the reverb
