Buried Treasure

Her eyes called out to me,
Just like a sirens song.
We got to talking,
We got along.

I said what are you about,
She said why don’t you find out.
So I said, it’d be my pleasure.
I thought that, I’d found, buried treasure.
(Jackpot!)

Never thought I’d settle down,
Then I bought another round.
Now I’m in it.
Thought we were just messin’ round,
Another night out on the town.
No it isn’t.

We dug a little deeper,
We learned a lot.
We became dependent,
Started to fight a lot.
(Is it over?)

I said what are we doin?
She said, you tell me.
Didn’t know what to tell her,
So I said “marry me?”
(She said yes!)

I hoped then, I had, buried treasure.

Never thought I’d settle down,
So let’s have another round,
Now we’re in it.
Thought I was just playin’ round,
That this wouldn’t all go down.
But it did.
(Everything changed).

Now our kids call out to me,
Ain’t that a fuckin sight to see!?
I couldn’t love them anymore,
Can’t believe it’s cause I scored.
No it isn’t.
(Of course it is).

Maybe, but there’s so much more.
Don’t care what I did anymore.
You and I made them.
Now, every time they smile,
I know, I found, buried treasure.

Your eyes still call out to me,
They sing a different song.
But even two kids later,
We still get along.
(As good as it gets!)

It’s not all about us now,
But some shit could still go down,
Baby, put the laundry down.
Let’s get busy.
(When we’re sure they’re asleep).

Never thought I’d settle down,
So let’s go another round,
Now you’re in it.
Who’d have thought this all was fated,
When we met that night both faded?

Not me.

But I knew then, I’d found, buried treasure.

(I was right!)

some good stuff , I don't think you need all that for a radio song

Id lose the profanity , You don't need it to prove a point , Its the great line to come up with, not a cop out saying fuck shit

    My 2 cents

  • I agree with Elvis on the profanity. This song doesn't feel like it needs it, it seems out of place. The first half of the song doesn't have any and nothing feels missing there.

I really like "buried treasure" as your metaphor for relationship/kids, I think that's strong. Especially when it turns out to be something unexpected.

There's a mood to the song - positive, happy - and whenever you can pick up a mood (whatever it is) I think that's a good sign.

I like the variation in structure across the song, gives it a sense of movement.

    Nice work!
