Back Of My Hand

V1

I know her coffee, black with a burn

Know which old records she won’t let turn

Know how she laughs when she’s half-mad drunk

And the lies she tells when the truth gets sunk

I know that silence she hides behind

Like a loaded gun she won’t unwind

I can read her face like a roadside sign

But the fine print changes every time

Pre

Yeah I’ve mapped every mile of where she stands

But I still don’t know where I land…

Ch

I know her heart like the back of my hand

Every scar, every crack in the plan

Every “I’m fine” that don’t mean a thing

Every goodbye she don’t quite bring

Yeah I can trace every line in the sand

But love don’t follow a map you can scan

I know her heart like the back of my hand…

Still don’t understand

Post (short, your style)

Know it by touch

Ain’t ever enough

V2

I know the ghosts she don’t name out loud

They sit at the table when we’re in a crowd

Know how she runs but she don’t go far

Just circles back like a wrecked old car

I know the nights she don’t sleep at all

Stares at the ceiling like it might fall

I know her leaving before she goes

Like a cold wind cutting through closed doors

Pre

Yeah I can feel it before it lands

Like rain on a no-man’s land…

Ch

I know her heart like the back of my hand

Every scar, every crack in the plan

Every “I’m fine” that don’t mean a thing

Every goodbye she don’t quite bring

Yeah I can trace every line in the sand

But love don’t follow a map you can scan

I know her heart like the back of my hand…

Still don’t understand

Bridge (shorter, gritty)

If knowing was fixing, we’d both be saved

If loving was enough, we’d never break

But hearts ain’t engines you can tune up right

Some just run wrong their whole damn life

Final Chorus (lifted feel)

I know her heart like the back of my hand

Every scar, every crack in the plan

Every “I’m fine” that don’t mean a thing

Every goodbye she don’t quite bring

Yeah I can trace every line in the sand

But love don’t follow a map you can scan

I know her heart like the back of my hand…

And it’s slipping like sand

Tag

Yeah I know her…

Just don’t understand

I told my wife yesterday I know this city like the back of my hand
