It Could Be True

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asf_8p6eKJw
Hi! This song came about from a challenge by my husband to write a song about something I said recently. I said “it could be true.” He said you ought to write a song around that theme. I've never written a country song but that's just how it came out.
It's been years since I've written and recorded anything. I wrote the lyrics, music and recorded all the parts myself.
I'm new at engineering music so I’m still in the learning curve for sure.
Equipment used to record the tracks: TASCAM DP-008EX --Kick, woodblock and piano parts: Roland MC 307. Guitar: Ovation Balladeer. Bass: Yamaha RBX 1000. I then imported the tracks into Audacity where I mixed and mastered them.
There is a part for a solo which has not been yet recorded. I think you'll be able to figure out where that's is. 😊
Please take a listen-- all feedback is welcomed. Thank you. ~ Finnajane
Lyrics:
It could be true © 2023 Finnajane MacLeod
You heard a lot of bad things
Well, I can’t deny
I’m no angel with wings
I cannot fly
It takes just one rumor
Now everybody says
I’ve got no sense of humor
And I’ve seen better days
It could be true
I cannot lie
What’s a girl to do?
Put up a fight?
It could be true
It could be true
Well, it could be true
Don’t care to wear a watch now
Don’t care about time
I’m not much of a catch yeah
But I’m doing just fine
I’m not the pick of the litter
Won’t win no prize
Just got kicked off Twitter
For threats that weren’t wise
It could be true
I cannot lie
What’s a girl to do?
Put up a fight?
It could be true
It could be true
Well, it could be true
***solo***
It could be true
I cannot lie
What’s a girl to do?
Put up a fight?
It could be true
It could be true
Well, it could be true
It could be true
The things you hear
It could be true
I eat, sleep and drink and talk too much
Every single day
It could be true
It could be true
It could be true

I really like this song. There's an honesty about it. Lovely singing too. Sure, I can imagine a bigger production, but that doesn't matter. There's nothing wrong in my eyes with the gear you have. Yeah, I really enjoyed this.😀

Thanks Chris! It's been fun doing the project all myself and learning as I go. I have limited time so finding musicians to record the parts is not in the near future. Maybe once I retire in a few years. Back in 2001 when I recorded my first CD, I had musicians available at that time and someone who knew music engineering. But that was then, this is now. I'll be posting more as I get some more songs together. Looking forward to listening to other's music and giving feedback too! 😊

I like it. It's got something going for it. I think the chorus is particularly strong.
"I’m not much of a catch yeah" I'd probably switch "yeah" to "now" to match the 1st line of that verse, but that's just me, no biggie.
I think "threats" is a bit too negative. Maybe just "words"?
But all up I like the lyric and the simplicity of the style.

Cool song! The lyrics are fun and engaging, your vocals are nice, and your selection of instruments gave the song a unique vibe. Good stuff! I enjoyed listening! I look forward to hearing more songs from you. 😀0

Thanks RainyDay Man! I will seriously consider your suggestion of changing "threats" to "words"....kinda tone it down a little 😋 It would give that line some nice alliteration too! "for words that weren't wise" I'll probably re-record vocals down the line some time.

Thanks for your kind words Icystorm! I will definitely be working on more songs in the near future!

I love the hook line and how you use it. It's a fun and amusing song with a catchy chorus. Nice vocals and melodies! I really enjoyed the listen.
Littel nits would be:
I don't get the connection with the watch, losing time and not being a catch. Seems the last part fits better with the 'pick of the litter' lines (which feels redundant since you covered that already).

Jane, I love the twitter lines. Very unique.I’m a little rusty myself as I haven’t written in quite some time. Overall I like it. It’s a good start into getting back in the groove. Best of luck!0

Thanks Andrea - glad you liked it. As far as the watch, time, etc...I was just trying to frame the person in the song as someone who chonically shows up late, not at all, etc. -- and "not much of a catch" again , just the overall vibe of the "character" in the song. Thanks for offering your view on the lyrics. 👍

Thanks MPDudash! Yeah - just a quick song I wrote to get the creative juices flowing again. I have some songs I started years ago that I need to finish and get recorded. I few that are a lot more serious that the one just posted. Good luck to you also on getting "back in the groove". 🎶

Simplicity is a virtue :) This is cute and quirky with a catchy melody. RDM has some good suggestions, especially about replacing "threats" with "words." The idea of her issuing threats kind of detracts from the ditzy but lovable character you've created. I enjoyed this.

Thanks Gavin! yeah, I do agree with RDM about changing "threats" to "words". I went a little too forceful there lol 😵🤪 I plan on re-recording the vocals anyways. I plan on revising things a bit and moving on to the next project.

Hi @Plain_Jane
I'm loving that splatty bass. It gives a lovely unique quality to the song and does the tongue in cheek work for you and allows the lyrics and vocals to fly. A song that proves simplicity is often best. 👍️
Best wishes,
CCB
