“Truth For A Truth”

Words & Music by Tom Tognaci

Somebody help me….

Somebody save me….

Rescue me from myself

They call me a loner

They call me a bad man

who’s pulled his guns down from the shelf.

Now, here’s the real story….

I’m a stand up American

who’s a son of God and this country’s love

I’ll stand by my code,

taking the higher road;

keeping me straight with the Lord above

But to spin a tale so tall when there’s not much there at all…..

Redefining what is truth;

then, to call it rain, the facts, while they’re pissing down our backs

Now, that’s the fight I’ll fight, truth for a truth

So, don’t buy the fake news

….I am not the enemy

I’m the man who turns the other cheek

I’ll stand for justice,

sidestep a silly fuss

Even if it means I’m looking weak

But to spin a tale so tall when there’s not much there at all…..

Redefining what is truth;

then, to call it rain, the facts, while they’re pissing down our backs

Now, that’s the fight I’ll fight, truth for a truth

Somebody help me.

Somebody save me……

Rescue me from myself.

They call me a loner

They call me a bad man

Got my MAGA hat down from the shelf

  • Good writing man, The robot guitar is not as crisp or clean as a session player

But it gets the job done

  • Session players cost bucu bucks...and it is hard to get a "session" player to record a song of mine.

The music industry is about to be turned on its head.

200.00 , No they're not miracle workers , They have to learn it . mix it all that. Nashville number system. Your voice is better then robots

  • LOL... $200 is a lot of money. And to have to learn it, they need to like it... good luck with that. $200 can't buy me love.

Nashville is nowhere in my book... and my voice couldn't get me 30 seconds of a producer's time.

Ok 10 bucks to support robots and the corruption

200.00 to support a man and wife with a baby

All you AI guys like the gray area and forget right from wrong

Not that I don't dance in the gray area on other matters

Well your hook is truth , So I gave you some

Well enough on robots , Good song Tom

Corruption?? That is a bald-faced exaggeration. LOL

And I need that $200 for my own family!!! I have a big family, too!!!

Hard for me to feel sorry for all those musicians... I hope they all have day-time jobs. I had to get one. Of course, those part of the "elite" of their craft will undoubtedly feel it difficult to transition from musician to plumber.

And it's very presumptuous of you to be calling me an "AI guy". There is nothing "gray" concerning my embrace of AI and COVER productions. But call it what you will. I'm hearing my music recorded the way it's supposed to be heard, without the hassle of big bucks, months of time, and no guarantees I will get what I want from all those awesome musicians you speak of.

And your Truth is skewed when it comes to me and my motives. Those musicians that you champion and defend never did ANYTHING for me. It's life.... and many are going to have to put down the guitar and pick up a wrench. No big deal.

After all.... guitar playing, songwriting, singing...It's all only for our own entertainment and amusement.

And BTW... All of which I've said, I've said to you before. You know how I feel, yet you insist on comparing my covered songs to session musician products. I don't care with how they do it in Nashville. I'm concerned with making the best covers of MY OWN SONGS, without making this a VERY expensive hobby!

You must have money to burn?

  • Good sound Tom.

I didn't know the story, and I wouldn't have pieced it together from the lyric. What I did get was the sense of a personal story of someone standing by their beliefs.

  • You must have money to burn Not really , But I don't like AI or what it stands for , fair enough Tom , Do your covers .

    It works for you

    Thank you Rainy!

    You got it!

This song was inspired out from the frustration of seeing kids getting their MAGA hats ripped of their heads and physically threatened to try to get it back. A family man holding a MAGA sign and getting shot in the head... and immediately after, a bystander runs through the street yelling "We got one of them...we got one of them"

That's the back story which compelled me to write.

This was all happening during our "Summer of Love" protests.

    Sad and bad stuff happening.

Oh... you don't like AI.... well, you used it on one of my songs without ever asking me. The legalities of that prevents me from practically using my song for myself. I just wish your aversion to "AI Covers" began before you took my song.

Good lyrics but I couldn't access the music. I don't know if you only shared the lyrics or if the link you posted leads to the song with the music you want to cover... I'm pretty clumsy with these things but after trying several times I haven't been able to find anything with this title. Help!! @IronKnee

  • Hi M.... I took the link down. it seems there is a lot of opposition to AI... even when covering songs. I am elated with and am so relieved to hear my music played the way I have always envisioned. The opposition is spread across the entire web.... no one wants to hear my music played great... they would rather hear my flat and sorry playing 😎

Not looking for any pats on the back... it is how I feel, and I haven't felt this good about writing music in years... maybe even decades.

Thanks for reaching, M. You have always been a source of validation.

  • Well I'd put it back up Tom , oh session players or AI , its just a song

  • The original version recorded by me is on my soundclick site.

Sorry, it's not as good as the Cover version.

  • I laughed out loud, and almost spit coffee. What was funny is that one person might decide for another what is a 'reasonable' cost. What is reasonable for for one person is outlandish for another person. Money you have available to spend is what makes an expense "reasonable." Five dollars is the same to a poor person as 100,000 dollars is to a billionaire. I've spent money on getting songs produced. I don't feel like it was wasted by any means, but I don't still do it. I'm cheap and I'm also frugal. They aren't the same thing. The point being. . . if you KNOW the other person's situation and finances, what you said could make sense. If you don't, (and we're all really strangers here) it might not. I recall watching Elton John giving what he thought was wise counsel to wannabe artists in an interview. "Listen to your producer" he said. "I, Sir Elton John" listen to my producer." Great advice, but not as great for someone who has a producer without talent. High level artists should take his advice. "The best riders get the best horses" and the best artists get the best producers. Some people who were just starting out had to trust their own judgements instead of submitting to a producer who didn't get what they were aiming at. I'll also guarantee that when Sir Elton John disagrees with his producer his producer listens to HIM too.

  • About the same cost as owning a bass boat
  • As hard as it is to believe, some folks can't afford a boat.

  • Yeah... money and affordability is all subjective.

when someone has a couple a hundred songs written over a span of some 50 years, $2-4 hundred dollars makes a fortune when multiplied by some 200.

Not everybody is broke , some do quite well . Songs are basically a little hot rods
Fun to build , but lose money when you try to sell them , unless your famous in Nashville . Rich people are rich cuz they’re smart , poor people are poor cuz they’re stupid , I fall in the stupid range lol
