A mid winter´s dream (reimagined)
Back on the old Songwriter101 forum there was a discussion about whether every songwriter could handle every genre. I quietly said, “I could write a country song right away” — even though I had never touched country before.
That winter I was stuck at home with a terrible cold and came up with the idea: someone sick of winter dreaming of a tropical island. I wrote the lyric, made a quick demo, and sent it to Ray. He immediately rewrote the text in a funny way, a friend helped with the production, and another sang on our demo.
Hey Ray — I even ran the old demo with Vince on vox through some AI nonsense (no offense meant 😅) just to see what it would sound like 15 years later. Check it out!

A Midwinter’s Dream
Verse 1
Come winter when the weather gets cold
And the ground gets all white with snow
I dream of a tropical sun
Some laid back summer fun
On a warm beach at the edge of the sea
Lying in the shade of a coconut tree
A blanket on the sand
An ice cold beer in my hand
Chorus
A midwinter's dream
Of a tropical Hawaiian scene
A place where it never gets cold
At least that's what I'm told
Far away from any snow or ice
An island's paradise
Always so warm and green this is
A midwinter's dream
Verse 2
I see her standing in the sand
An island girl so dark and tan
She smiles in the prettiest way
And hands me a flower lei
Her eyes sparkle as I take her hand
We start dancing to a steel drum band
I find a shell for her by the sea
She shares a kiss with me
Chorus
A midwinter's dream
Of a tropical Hawaiian scene
A place where it never gets cold
At least that's what I'm told
Far away from any snow or ice
An island's paradise
Always so warm and green this is
A midwinter's dream
Bridge
The wind blows and blows
I'm tired of all this snow
But when I close my eyes I see
My island girl's waiting for me
Chorus
A midwinter's dream
Of a tropical Hawaiian scene
A place where it never gets cold
At least that's what I'm told
Far away from any snow or ice
An island's paradise
Always so warm and green this is
A midwinter's dream

Good achievement!!! Winter colors make easy to look for sun light and sweet air!!! Funny lyrics

Thank you. Not my best work, but working with @W_Ray_Bertram was a hell lot of fun

AI nonsense lol . The melody sounds like a ole Beach Boys song
Maybe the robots stole it from them
Sounds good

If anyone “stole” the melody, it was me 😅 I leaned on the chord progression from Kokomo for the verses — not copied, just used it as a guide. Chord progressions aren’t really under copyright anyway, only lyrics and melodies, and those are completely different here.
So no robots involved — if anyone’s guilty, it’s me. If you’re curious, I can even share the original home recording (around 15 years ago) so you can hear the difference between that and the AI-polished version.
Original Home recording:

Well, not hard core country! Neither the lyric nor the AI music come across that way to me.
But it's very easy to listen to.

Thanks for listening! Just to clarify: the lyric and the music are mine, I actually made a home recording first. I only ran it through an AI tool 15 years later to clean it up and make it sound a bit more polished. So it’s not “AI music” — more like AI production

Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification :)

Kokomo , Yup thats the song I heard in your melody .George was famously sued because “My Sweet Lord” was way too close in melody and structure to “He's so Fine”. If you were famous that might happen to you , kinda funny

Haha, well I heard rumors Mike Love once wanted to sue Katy Perry because her outro went “I wish they all could be California Girls”. Guess these things happen

Let's say a AI vid went viral on your song by some miracle of God and it made 1mil . The publisher would sue you for copywrites . But your honor the chorus is changed up , Beach boys I object , Let him speak by the judge

If this old song ever made me a million bucks, I’d be more than happy to share it with Mike Love — if that’s what a judge decided 😅 On the other hand, Al Jardine once invited Glen Campbell to sing a duet on Rhinestone Cowboy. He retitled it Postcard from California and was credited as the sole author.

Unless you had a jury of beach boys fans , then you'd lose lol
