Birds of a Feather (Cover)

I'm going to start covering my songs with SUNO.

Here is my first attempt. Any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks.

“Birds of a Feather”

Words & Music By Tom Tognaci

 Covered (produced) by SUNO

My fair-weather friends, birds of a feather

Proving me a fool, together

Was there something in the wind? Was it me or just the wine?

I took it squarely on the chin this time

Were those tears cried for my sake? I was right to have my doubt

When you couldn’t wait to take it south

My fair-weather friends, birds of a feather

Playing me a fool, together

 So, goodbye, my so-called friends

You’ve made the bed you’re in

And that feathered bed you made

You once again will trade

… and trade, and trade, and trade.

No, it didn’t take long for our world to rearrange

For your pretty little song to change

Were those tears just made-up things, an excuse used to move on?

Was he waiting in the wings all along?

My fair-weather friends, birds of a feather

Up, up, and away, together

  • You've been preaching for months on the dangers of AI , Now you're using Suno , I find that odd

  • This seems like the best use of AI music to me. Write the song yourself, then try to get as polished a version of it as you can.

I like your own voice, and it worked very well for this track as I recall, but you're not going to get the harmonies and backing etc by yourself. Can you splice your own voice into this production? That would be nice to hear too. Got a feeling Suno allows you to create stems of all the tracks.

Like the idea internal rhymes and the melody, dont listen to Elvis, lol like that little solo at end, you can tell that's your idea cause it's similar to the melody

This has a 70s vibe all the way

It's something that's gonna be a part of our lives now, and I agree with rdm, this is the best way to use ai

It's the only way to find yourself in the process. I enjoyed this.

Welcome to the dark side 😄
  • Just goes to show that you have NEVER heard a word I have said!

Sadly, that's pretty typical of most people.

  • Thanks, Rainy...

That's what I have been saying since forever.

My problem with someone's use of SUNO stems from SUNO creating the song, itself; and the prompter claiming to be the creator.

I've always empathized with lyricists who had no way of realizing their songs. The only reason why I began recording my own songs is because it usually cost around $500. to get into a studio, or to send it off to Nashville to get some guy to record it for me.

This IS my song: the lyrics, the melody, the rhythm, and the instrumentals. Everything I do going forward will be "covers" of my stuff!

I've never liked listening to my own voice, and I really hate / dislike recording myself. My love is the writing process and guitar playing.

    Thanks, Domd... The dark side?

There are many paths to take, and not all roads lead to the dark side. I will be very careful not to stray. 😎

    Just kidding.
  • Your full of it , you've been bitching about Suno songs for months , Now here you are on Suno

  • I haven't weighed in much on the AI/Suno debate, but I think I did say once that this is the use of the technology that I am most comfortable with - covering you own songs. Write it, record it and then let Suno cover it. In a way, it's not hugely different from what I did on the couple of songs I recorded in Nashville a while back. I recorded the songs as a guide and then let them have at it. The two major differences would be fun (Nashville wins) and cost (Suno wins).

This is very polished, obviously. Love the harmonies and the instrumentation. I agree with Owen, though. I like your voice better than this generic one.

He's allowed to rethink things Elvis s, and he's only using it as a band, that's where I'm headed.

The only option is to assimilate. I'm actually taking a course in ai, it will help those are in the know
  • I remember the rant people who use Suno are talentless hacks , No here he is a penny a track

So the solution is to pay for demos that never do anything? .

It's not helping you one bit to not use it

I get it, it's weirdly new and we're not sure how to proceed.

I'll take the E Street Band, ANY day, but they ain't available.

One thing your missing is that it's the result that matter

and even then, the likelihood of anybody outside this forum hearing it is not good.

Your still doing it largely for yourself.
  • Back 30 years ago human demos might have done something for a radio cut , I'd say now its maybe zero or 1% chance

AI are radio ready , But doubt anybody makes any money off them , with millions made a day using Suno

30 years ago, if you were lottery type lucky, you could maybe get a cut, but still 90 + percent didn't , so the only people who made money were people who write books on songwriting, and Demo services.

It was always virtually impossible the songwriter was just the only one unaware!

Keep writing, producing, recording, as a hobby.

It's always been a hobby it's just we didn't know it
  • It was not a hobby for me , it was serious business , but now I’m retired
  • Does Elvis remember my reaction to my song "Just Out Of Reach" when he pirated it into SUNO. Was I outraged that he took my song, without permission, mind you, and had SUNO produce it?? NO!!

I was elated with the sound and adherence to my song. I had no idea in the world that SUNO could make covers of our music.

Embracing cover work is different from prompting SUNO to write a song around one's lyrics... and I've always said that it's OK to do that so long as you take credit for the lyrics and give credit to SUNO for the rest.

So get off you tsk-tsk wagon and give it a rest

  • So now you’re a Suno man ?
It don’t matter it’s just a forum song
    All good

    @ElvisNash
My point was, it probably shouldn't have been more than a hobby, there was never a chance

@IronKnee the thing is, nobody could really know how much you wrote, all or a smidge

Aa a writer I agree, it's just more satisfying if it's your own ideas.

But to the listener all they will want to know is if it's any good or not.

Authorship: is questionable for any song ever written
  • Writers get cuts all the time
So I took a big chance , now its over
  • Domd

But they don't get cute that pay money. Only major cuts do that

  • We all take big chances in some form or another, sometimes they pay off, sometimes it doesn't.

For a time, it gave you purpose, a sense of self. that can't be taken away, even if you feel like it didn't pay off as intended, it doesn't mean it's wasted.

  • Yeah... you are right about that. It's one thing that irks me about this tech. People will lie and fall to temptation.

With my music, I'll know... and I'll find a way to back it up.

    Like it really matters LOL.

    But I'll know.
