A.I. May I? (Lewczyk/Tornblom)

The boy is guided from above

Under the guise of maternal love

Making sure he can’t be hurt

Mother’s boy behind her skirt

In no way shall he be exposed

No boyish prank, no bloody nose

No scabby knee, no dirty clothes

Mother, may I go out to play?

Mother, may I? It’s a sunny day.

In the shadows of a darkened sky

All the crew will shout: “Aye, aye!”

The captain’s stare surveys the deck

Who will he blame if they get wrecked?

No one escapes his scrutiny

No chance of any mutiny

Only his might is their unity

Captain, may I stay ashore today?

Captain, may I? It’s a stormy day.

Under the gaze of a silent drone

Angelic eye that protects its own

Secret data that tracks your score

Lets you know if you get more

Smartly tethered to your phone

Them the makers, us the clones

“We guarantee you won’t be alone.”

A.I., may I go out to play?

A.I., may I negotiate my pay?

A.I., may I know what I can say?

A.I., may I stay alive today?

  • @DullRoar - even though the AI topic has been beaten to death, this is an interesting take on it. Catchy tune. I like the melodic solo, just wondering if it would sound better if you dropped the last part and had just a sustaining note leading back into the chorus.

This reminds me of 'enter sandman" a bit. I like the urgent beat. Metallica might tackle that subject matter too

Interesting guitar parts sounds kinda like an indian scale, the solo sounds like that too.

    Different for sure. Good track.

I suspect everybody will be writing AI themed songs, cause it's such a trendy subject now.

@DullRoar - Superb, so neatly done :) I like the production and the way you have stamped the AI theme in the very last verse of the tune. The first one starts with "mother" being the guardian while the boy is young, and in the second one "the captain" is the mentor as the boy becomes a man and enters the world with his work in life and the third verse replaces all human connection with the AI reference, the AI being the supreme controller of life making all his decisions for him. Excellent and interesting take I have to say

  • One of the better takes I have seen/heard on the subject, mostly because the message is presented so simply. "AI, May I" is a great hook. In a way, it's a pity it only appears at the end, although I understand why. Maybe you could add a short outro of guitar interspersed with three or four repetition of the phrase?

  • Good track! Tight lyric and music.

The ending is quite abrupt, and you may want that to emphasize that last line of lyric, but I was hoping for maybe a bit of guitar there and a loop around around on the final chorus - bit like Gavin.

    Well done indeed.

    HOla,

A little disturbing. I like the parts that sound exotic and oriental. They give the story a mysterious, undulating feel. The ending puzzled me a little, but, well, I think I'm always puzzled.

It is without question an interesting concept. I'm not sure what the point you are making is, but it's an absolutely interesting lyric.
